I consider this situation a perfect case in point as to why I never use my credit cards for hobby-related purchases. Why would I when there are other good options available?

In particular, I recommend using gift cards. It means having to go plunk down the cash to purchase them, but that extra step is alright with me, considering that I can be assured that no one can gain access to my credit.

I've gotten calls from chase bank asking me to confirm a purchase usually the day after I post an ad there .  Funny thing is I don't use them and I only put enough in my account for the exact amount of the ad so it'll get declined if someone else tries to make a transaction.

I've been using them for years and all I've gotten is spam texts or telemarketing calls never an attempt to fraudulently use my CC .
Is she sure its not her own network that's not secure if your internet isn't password protected its very easy for someone to keylog the info you type in such as credit card info and go hog wild.
