Is an Alias private on here?

Soo...my question:
I've been concerned about posting on here do to some of the nasty blowback that occurs.  I keep my head down, do my best to offer an incredible experience, and quietly collect my reviews.

But I do have some things I want to post as threads.

Who can see through my alias on here and get to my real profile?

Thank you.

Your alias is private to end users. Admins can see exactly who you are, so if you're trying to use an alias to dog on them, well, they'll know.

OH no no.  Of course an admin knows.
No problem.
I'm concerned with mongers.

I know of some terrible stories from here concerning fake reviews with certain people targeting a provider, etc.  I just want to keep my head low on the discussion boards.

AHHHHH!!!!!!

Oh!

Okay.  Whew!!  :-)

... be careful when posting.  Don't do the common "oops" where you start a thread with your alias and post later in the same thread with your handle, and it's obvious it's the same person.

using both the regular handle and the alias, they will usually flip the alias.

What "usually" happens is the second post gets removed, from what I've seen.  There can be a time out involved also for posting with a handle and alias in the same thread, but I don't think that happens much either based on what I've observed.

Also it can take awhile for such a post to be reported... if ever.  In the meantime, the alias is exposed to whomever reads the thread.

Aliases only get flipped  when someone abuses it. For example, posting on the same thread with their handle and alias and purposely acting as two different posters. Repeat offenders get moderated and/or put on time out. When people accidentally post on the same thread with their alias and handle, it "usually" gets missed. When it does get caught by admin, or reported by an observant member, or self reported, TER usually just removes the second post.

Accidentally posting in the same thread with an alias and handle is the most common way aliases get outed.

It is not in TER's interest to expose aliases.  Talk about nuclear blowback if they did.

The greatest threat to revealing your alias/handle connection is to forget to change which one you are posting on when you respond.  I've done that a few times and quickly raced to edit the post.

Yes, I can see that easily happening. Thank you!

1) If you expose your alias you can change it.  You can change your alias every three months.
2) Don't worry about Admins abusing the fact that they know your alias and your handle. I've never seen that happen.
3) That said, if you abuse the system, Admin can "flip" your alias and expose it.  It rarely happens.

Thank you all!!

Well.  That was easy.

And even kind!   Lol

Thank you so  much

our original thoughts as well. Just saying......

TER can  flip an alias too.  I don't use one. I have but I had the problem of outting myself lol back in the day, I'd say something and forget to switch back to my handle before posting again.  it just wasn't worth it to speak my mind, really.  There are times when an alias is needed but rare IMHO. If I have something to say, people already know it's me. Just food for thought  😚

I use my real handle and reviews to screen (my real handle is posted on 411). I don't need new hookers reading my post.

True! Sometimes an alias is needed lol I get that 😎
Oh wait, I already said that 😋

If you post using your alias and also post using your handle, be sure to use a totally different writing style for each or people here will figure out whose alias it is.  I solve that problem simply by never posting using my handle, which is for reviewing only.  And since I've stopped reviewing (at least for now) , my handle is never seen here.  There have been a few times I've screwed up and mistakenly posted with it but I've quickly noticed it and pulled the post.  The only people who noticed already knew, so no harm done.
