I too have made a loan to an ATF. She insisted on signing a promisary note which was to be paid off by March 2005. She has paid off 60% of it for which I suppose I should be thankful. She claimed(the last time we spoke which was last year) to be bothered a lot by the fact she owed me money. I knew after 2+ years she could pay me as she had money for lots of descretionary spending...always with some new story about why she had to do this. Have to say her creativity rivals that of my 8 year old. I finally contacted a friend who runs a collection agency. Perhaps she will like talking with his representatives. Sad to admit I think we all need to consider the caliber of individual we are loaning our funds to.
as Mr Fish said it's your call. I "loaned" money to my then atf twice with full knowledge that I would never get ir back. She said consider it a prepay Actually worked out the first time but not the second

I have never actually loaned an SP money. I have advanced some that I saw regularly for services at a discounted rate.
In one case, a provider that I usually saw twice a month needed surgery and had no medical insurance. I advanced her a bit more than I would have spent in about six months. She said she's make it up with free sessions for a year after she recovered and she did. However, when I saw her more than my usual twice a month, I paid in full for the session, so she didn't lose all my ncome. I also got some overnights and travel at no charge (though she enjoyed that too).
My other two experiences, both with providers I saw regularly and had a good relationship with, followed the same scheme: Give the money now and you get more than you paid for in the future. I still have credit with one, but she always seems to be a bit on the edge financially, so I havenm't ever fully collected, though she always reminds me that it's there.
My advice is that you should consider it a realistic possibility that you'll never recoup the money. If you aren't ok with that, don't give her the money.
I've been asked on a few occasions but said no every time but once. I gave her the money as a pre pay situation in exchange for x amount of hours at a discounted rate. It worked out fine this way, but I doubt I'd ever have seen the money back if it was a straight cash situation.
I lent 10K to an ATF to allow her to fix her teeth and get set up in NY to do private sessions. Before long, she had a stroke, the money was said to have been stolen and I haven't seen a dime back. In fact she's tried on more than one occasion to come back to the well. I haven't had so much as 1 free session either. Oh well, I guess that money is long gone.
