I was looking at my reviews which made me remember why I took the route that I took. Now while I don't review everyone I see or just on this board, reviewing(lol)them reminded me that in the end my encounters were less than enjoyable.
How many less than enjoyable trysts would it take to disallusion you about this whole endeavor? Or doesn't piss-poor dates get you down? Some people HAVE to have cost-effective dates.
Please don't lecture me on the ole "Do your homework" bs.
Maybe that's why I am usually in a good mood, as opposed to some of these guys who really should find another hobby.
It's like playing golf, If you've played the game for years, still suck at it, and don't really enjoy it, Why the fuck do you keep playing the damn game?

I am sure your case is much different, you were looking for something and stopped looking once you found it. All I am looking for is a good time, and I find that several times a week. What works for me doesn't work for you, and vice versa, doesn't make either one of us right and the other wrong, just different.

But my real answer to OSP is, I don't know. Why? Because I've had two distinct phases in my hobby life. The first was 25 years ago. No reviews, just call a #, get an address, show up and look at the gals. I found a handful of places in NY with a good roster of girls and happily played for years. No reviews needed. And very few bad experiences. Just lucky, I guess.
Flash forward to late last year. After a month or so of study on TER and Brand X, I sallied forth. My first girl was, and still is, an ATF (I have several). Perhaps it's because I usually spend between $300 and $500 (I also have seen a few gals outside that range, high and low), I have only been badly disappointed once. She had about five mixed reviews but her pix were hot. Of course, she was heavier than her pix and the reviews were spot on -- she should be doing anything but providing.
How many such experiences would stop me from playing? I don't know, but suspect it won't happen. First of all, I've got a roster of great women to see again and again. And, with the approach I've taken, my downside is limited with the new ones.
and yes I have had hundreds of sub par experiences, but I have had thousands of good ones, and hundreds of fabulous ones.
The hobby has also led to a dozen or more LTR's or at least MTR's lol (medium term) that on average ended a lot better than most of my civvie relationships.
The hobby allows me to have the sex life of a rock star, and I have no delusions that I would get even a fourth of the tale I do without the hobby.
Some people are looking for love or some kind of connection with a person, maybe for validation or whatever the reason. I don't need any of that, I like it when someone fucks my brains out, not for the money, but because they simply want to. Truth be told, that happens in the hobby as well, often enough to keep my self esteem and not feel like a "loser" that HAS to pay for sex.
Hmm, that didn't sound right. Not "with you" in the same room (unless you want a 3 some LMAO) I meant, hobbying like a rock star several times a day every day.
I highly doubt I have the physical capacity to hobby that frequently, but do wish to get a nice big luxurious yacht and do a threesome weekend getaway every weekend... with a nice scenic view of the ocean. Or on a jet... lol

It is very...very rare for me to have a piss poor experience. If I did I would most certainly pass that info on for the bennefit of others. However , there is always that chemisty factor. And when I have less than a great encounter I do find myself not as eager to play. Great sex triggers interest in more and more and more. So..so sex...ehhh. But still , I don't consider it as a waste of time or money. It is simply a reality of the game.
thats when I also found myself in the arms of the one who ended up slowing me down enough to catch me. I'm a tight waded skin-flint who refuses to spend money on something that isn't going to give me an ample return. Can I use those terms here? lol

i've had more than twice as many first encounters as written reviews. due to tricky chemistry issues the event was unmemorable and unreviewable in my book. effort was there but for some reason nothing clicked. now those reasons have to do with things that often do not make their way into a review or an ad. so more research isn't going to solve the problem. less than 30% successful.
backchannel recommendations from hobbyists often had to do with the hobbyist's taste or his "misunderstandings" of a ladies and/or my tastes. i doscovered that some of these recommendations (well intentioned thought they might have been) were tainted by having some stake in a successful referral. that's been 0% successful.
what works for me is 5 minutes of social conversation. never failed so far. 100% success.
PS i'm not disillusioned yet.

I've found TER to be an invaluable resource to gauging an agency's and indie's professionalism, discretion, and reliability. It's basically the handbook of hobbying.
While reading reviews certainly help, I've found that observing how agencies and indies interact among themselves and with clients has a strong bearing on their professionalism, discretion, and reliability.
TER is THE definitive source on hobbying. Period.
Use of any other source of information is at the hobbyist's own risk.

In your case, not wanting to be lectured about research may be more relevant than some others. You describe yourself as a tight-wadded skin flint and talk about "cost-effective dates". With that overriding concern going in, I'm not surprised you've been disappointed.
No matter what kind of playtime I've had (vacations, hobbying, entertainment, etc.) when I went into it concerned about how much I was spending and worried whether I was going to get my money's worth, it was never as much fun as when I just accepted up front that I wanted to do this thing, and the cost was what it was. (This has nothing to do with the cost relative to my income, it's the attitude going in about being willing to pay the price.)
My least satisfying experience in this hobby was one of the least expensive (but highly reviewed) ladies I saw years ago." Cost-effective" was not a factor - the chemistry was just zero. Other than that, my dates have all ranged from good to fantastic, with most in the latter category. Research is a big part of it, but my attitude going in is probably even more important. Maybe I've just been lucky, but every experience but that one has given me something to feel good about - maybe great sex, maybe just time with a spectacularly beautiful woman, maybe chemistry with an intelligent, fun lady I'd love to have as a friend. On the many occasions when there has been a combination of these items, the dates have been incredible. If I thought I needed every one of these characteristics to make the date "cost-effective" I'd be pretty bummed out too. Maybe I'm just to easy, but I think being hung up on the cost rather than accepting it going in and focusing on enjoying every aspect of the experience is setting you up for disappointment.
Of one of the best sessions I've ever had. Expensive! Met her at an M&G and the chemistry was definitely there. Decided on a 90-minute session, which cost close to $1G. On my way there I kept thinking, "What the fuck am I doing spending this much? I could see my ATF three times for this!" Guess what, when I came out I said to myself, "This is the best money I've ever spent." I still think about her and keep wondering when I'll see her again.
the answer will depend in part on just how much discretionary spending income each hobbyist has.
A millionaire will hardly bat an eye at a horrible session with a $1000 per hr provider.
A person with considerably less financial sustenance will wince in great pain if a $20 handjob goes awry.
