as I have many indian clients, I think is offensive. They have a very difficult "mother" language and is hard for them to learn english without pronoucing some letters in a heavy way.
I don't think you would like jokes about flaws "you" physically have...right?

The questions are (1) whether we deal with things, or deny them, and (2) whether we can laugh about it, or not.
Yeah, it's better to know we can also laugh at ourselves, and not behind somebody's back. But the fact is that there are a number of legal provisions designed to solve problems of language, as in foreign nationals getting US medical qualifications.
An accent isn't an immutable "flaw", it's something to be worked on. Here, it's a business relationship, and the question is whether the businessman is adapting to the customer, or vice versa. Of course Americans assume the businessman adapts to the customer; a lot of the rest of the world doesn't, and that's a lot of the reason so many want to come here.
BTW - a lot of my customers are Indian too, and by & large, they do keep plugging, which is what works. Having hurt feelings and making excuses doesn't work so well.

I'm Irish and German... I love the jokes. The funny thing about the joke was having removed the reference to Indian and replaced it with any of the following -
American kids fresh out of High School
American Kids Fresh out of two year college
Most of the TER members (unknown level of education)
Some of the TER Moderators
Yet we laugh at those who can't take the time to spell out words, are using acronys, abbreviations, emoticons (as if that can be found in a dictionary).
So, while it may offend you, it represents a wider problem with our education system - I hope you are an advocate for education reform also.

Flaws are funny....If we can't see them that way then we will never be true to ourselves......I have to laugh even harder about my flaws than I do at those of others.
Most jokes are ethnic and they are about flaws.....that's what makes them funny.

No, it's not nice to make fun of someone who's making an effort but still having difficultly learning the language...
However, when when some over-paid asshole on the executive team decides it's a brilliant idea to out-source the technical support call center (the front line of communication between one's business and its customers) to foreign-based workers who's command of the the language spoken by said customers is, to be polite, not the best...
...then, I'm sorry, but that's open season for mockery.

I have personal friends whom are East Indian also. Someone implied that I would be offended by jokes about my personal features etc. I am catholic and have been known to pass on jokes about catholics, priests, and even the pope. I am also part Native American and have posted jokes there in either here or on other boards.
I have no problem poking fun at myself either as I have always found humor to be something that can lighten things up especialy in the world we live in with so much strife and disagreement going on.
As far as political correctness, not all humor is so and it is silly in my oppinion for people to get all bent out of shape trying to please everyone all the time. "There is the saying you can please some of the people all the time, some of the people part of the time but you cannot please all of the people all of the time" (I am not sure if I have it 100% correct in wording etc but think I have gotten the message in it.)
One could think of the recent controvercy over the Christmass cards sent out this year by the White House and the lack of mentioning Christmass. Then think of the controversy I have created by passing on a joke that reminded me of my attempts to get technical support with my computer and with my internet access. Some of the responses made me think of an other joke that demonstrates to a large degree some of the problems when one tries to please everyone. I will not yet post that joke even though I am tempted till I have had some response (if any) to this. I will have to agree also with the statement about Richard Pryor and his language which used a word that is to many offensive and others just a simple not "politicaly correct" In my oppinion he had a good point in that he was able to laugh about himself and succeed in getting many laughs etc from a lot of the same people whom I suspect now find any joke that might poke fun at a group of people offensive.
Well I feel I should cut off now before I offend someone by poking fun at myself and some of the groups I fall into for there are more than just the ones mentioned above.
Have a happy day everyone and try to find a reason to laugh and smile for that will help you feel better. Of course if you prefer to frown and grumble I would suggest some pepto bismal so as to settle the stomach as that seems to be a problem with many who prefer to have negative outlooks. (oops I hope that does not offend any of the grumpy peoples)

I think people are missing the point; it's a good thing to state one finds ethnic jokes offensive on a public board seen by people of all kinds of races, and in different situations. Why? Because if nobody states they find ethnic jokes offensive, we may well see more of them. It's not "PC" it's bloody common sense, no matter how many______friends you have.
Personally, I find the "Some of my best friends are__________."excuse more offensive than the jokes. It means "I can offend people of ________ ethnicity that I don't know because I have friends of the same ethnicity". If that's the case, tell 'nigger' jokes to your Black friends rather than offend strangers and try an weasel out of it by invoking them as your excuse.
When you think it through, you're really insulting them twice; first by telling the joke, then using them to bail you out when somebody else calls you on it.
This is not meant to address anyone in particular in this thread, but rather an explanation of how I feel about the old "Some of my best friends" bullshit.

I'm repeating my last post but for the sake of God if people can't laugh at their own flaws and the flaws of others then they need to get a grip. My Indian friends will laugh harder at this joke than anyone.
People are too damned politically correct these days and they really need to just lighten up. What the hell kind of board is this anyway? It's not like you told the joke at a church function.

and the outsourcing of customer service jobs to foreign countries is something I have seen firsthand. Hearing people complain about how hard it is to understand people from other countries in these jobs is just desserts considering most people in this country never felt that it took any special talent to perform these jobs in the first place. Well, guess again...it takes someone who can communicate in the native tongue well to prevent callers from getting pissed off at having to struggle to understand what a CSR is saying to them or struggle trying to get the CSR to understand them.
As such, I feel this joke is fucking hilarious. Thanks, Georgia.
The joke reflects the frustration we feel when we call a service for help with a problem and get someone who can barely speak English. It's not just computer services where you get it. They now work for the auto clubs when you call in distress with a disabled vehicle and have to holler and very slowly spell out your name and location and then the truck never comes.
