TER General Board

An observation from a (relative) neophyte

Confession time: I have lurked here for a few years and this is my first post on one of the "national" boards. I have very much enjoyed the discourse, and just want to offer an observation on how, generally speaking, the people on the TER boards are civil, polite and helpful. There are exceptions, of course, as the occasional troll rears its ugly head and that must be dealt with.  And there are a few instigators who are more than anything looking to get under others' skin, and that ain't all bad. But for the most part decorum is the rule, led by the affable and insightful mrfisher. Unfortunately in this age of social media so many boards are full of vitriol and dominated by bullies and vicious goons. Not here. Thank you for making this a fun and interesting place to learn something about an activity that some would keep on the fringes of society, but serves a valuable purpose.

Or perhaps using opiods?  Only that would explain your OP.
Back to lurking for you.

IMHO, EVERY single time someone post here, even if it's a legitimate question that the person is looking for some old advice, or giving their opinion an a subject, there's always that bully and vicious goon that has to say something idiotic or just flat out ugly to whatever is posted. It's unfortunate because, t makes new guys, gals more reluctant to post anything. In fear of being attacked for just asking a question. Me being one of them. It's a shame to say the least! keep reading and watch peeps responses. I could give you a million examples but I'm sure I'd be attacked as soon as I posted.

We appreciate the kind words and I sure wish u were right completely. But........It just isn't that way most of the time,

I'm sure I'll be criticized for even writing this...LOL

Do not let "the few" take away from your enjoyment!

Just do not respond to the so called "bullies"

You are correct, "mrfisher" is a board class act. IMO

However, like anything there are always a few that try to stir it up and be nasty in their post and comments.  I typically choose to ignore those individuals.  For the most part, I've found the majority of the ladies and gents provide some good insight and responses.

Damn, how did that thing get shrunken?

Seriously, thanks for the props and also reminding us of our better selves, and on such a fitting holiday.

... Bobby Kennedy used to say about himself:

"Some men see things as they are and say why.
I dream things that never were and say why not."

But I've noticed a marked reduction in attacks here over the past year or so.  Yes, the trolls will always be with us, but besides those few individuals I think the tone has become "kinder and gentler".  What I think has happened is that we are unconsciously reacting in a positive way to the increase in hate and violence in the world around us. We realize that we are a community of people who share a passion:  to have adult-type fun with each other. So perhaps this "we're here to have fun" attitude is rubbing off on how we conduct ourselves here.

Or maybe the Russkies have put something in our water, Mandrake.  ;)

"Mandrake, come over here, the Redcoats are coming!"  One of the great movies of all time. :-)
