Could it be that if someone has something critical to say, they use an Alias because they don't want to tarnish their main user name??

I'm allergic to DRAMA. Think of it as a Condom for Posting.

People take this shit way too seriously and some will go off board with Drama when they don't like your posts.  

They'll contact providers you've seen to get stalking info or to ask them to delete whitelists.

They'll put you on blacklists.

They'll go on other boards to trash you.

They'll post your username in comments on news stories.

They'll troll your posts with Drama on every thread you participate in.

Why deal with drama when a simple aliss can prevent it.  Covered Posting is better than BBPosting every day.

when the alias is limited to 1. In the past, if one got outed, or some smart dude figured out who you were based on posting patterns, you could delete it and open a new one..

I used to have 100+ aliases - just for creating humor... Sadly that is not possible anymore..

something warm and fuzzy about clients under an alias it can be a bit more genuine than doing it to gain biz.

4. Opining contrary to the status quo, mob rule, or the personal taste Nazis.
5. Anonymity when doing surveys, polls etc.
6. Playing "Devils Advocate".
7. Humorous, topical or poignant Literary License.
8. They add immensely to the overall vigor of a discussion board.
