why say "the fact is..." when you don't have any facts?

regarding the post about ts providers below; one fellow says it is "essentially a homosexual activity, which BY DEFINITION is relatively high-risk"

really? the FACT is, the notion that HIV was a homosexual affliction died 15-20 years ago. there only is ONE 'homosexual' act which is demonstrated to be higher risk than other forms of sex, and that is unprotected receptive anal intercourse. there is NO scientific study in existence that will state that unprotected oral sex, or protected vaginal or anal intercourse carry any risk of HIV transmission whatsoever, and a GREAT MANY that will say they believe it to be highly unlikely.

another states that prostitutes are high risk for disease just by the nature of their work. THERE IS NO EVIDENCE TO SUPPORT THIS OPINION!!! read this quote:
-- The U.S. Department of Health consistently reports that only 3-5% of the sexually transmitted disease in this country is related to prostitution (compared with 30-35% among teenagers). There is no statistical indication in the U.S. that prostitutes are vectors of HIV. Although a small percentage of prostitutes may be HIV positive, William Darrow, CDC AIDS epidemiology official, cites no proven cases of HIV transmission from prostitutes to clients.

you want FACTS? here they are:

1. HIV does NOT behave like a sexually transmitted disease. it is a disease of IV drug abusers, spread sexually mainly when frequent, promiscuous, rough, unprotected, receptive sexual practices are engaged.

2. STD's are transmitted through unprotected vaginal or anal intercourse. authoritative sources (CDC, NIH, etc) will tell you that transmission through unprotected oral or protected vaginal/anal is POSSIBLE but will give you no percent of risk factor because NO PROVEN CASES exist.

You can get other things than HIV.  Gay people have higher rates of some STDs then the "straight" population.

HIV has jumped to the "straight" population in some countries where there are many public health problems (certain countries in Afterica).  Be more careful with people who aren't physically healthy.

These two things do NOT dispute the major thrust of your message.

your concluding item.

Although the CDC may not put risk factors on the web, researchers at the CDC have published risk factors for HIV for various acts with and without protection. The information has been posted on the web even if it isn't on the CDC website.

The NIH studied the effectiveness of condoms to prevent HIV transmission in Haitii. (Need I add that such a study could not be done in this country.)

I posted this information some time ago. The link to that post is below. The post itself contains links to the sources for the other statements above.
