I need some advice from people who have HSV-2. Obviously use a alias when you reply. I do not have HSV. I met a wonderful woman in my real life and she just told me she has HSV-2. I feel like she is worth the risk, so it's not a deal breaker. Am I crazy?

Thank you for your input!

...honesty is ALWAYS the best policy. I think it was a very mature and selfless thing that she did in telling you. A huge portion of her character was shown in her choosing to be honest about something so heavy. I don't think you're crazy because IMHO her telling you is a prime example of why you may feel she's worth the risk.

and I'm sure there are accomodations you can make that would reasonably assure your safety (Assuming that is your main issue, but there are others, such as dealing with the emotional side of a loved one's disability.)

Here's what I suggest:

I am sure the internet is chockablock with support groups for people whose SOs are afflicted with HSV.  Go and check them out and I bet you'll find a lot of ideas for how to cope.  I would also think that more than a few books on the subject are out there, whose titles you'll probably find mentioned in those same support group sites.

Best wishes for your happiness on this new venture.

Impressive. Your love interest is taking a big risk and demonstrating an enviable character trait. Her willingness to be totally open and honest and willing to risk the relationship, to me, clearly signals her desire to advance the relationship. She deserves a response from you as soon as you have one ready.  I believe you've already made up your mind and it's in line with all the replies so far.  Follow your heart and keep your wits about you.

Forgive the intrusion, but how long had you been seeing her before she told you?

I doubt you'll see anyone here admitting to having HSV-2. Alias, or otherwise. But, good on her for telling you...and, you for responding like an adult.

There are many, many couples who successfully manage this situation effectively, and safely. Talk to your DR.

Genital herpes or oral herpes is a very serious condition, and you should be careful when your intimate with her. There are some clinics that will give you free advice on how to proceed in a sexual relationship with a person that has herpes.

In the title of my thread, it stated the type of relationship to which you want to achieve. If you think that she is the one, then sex is only a small part within the relationship. Being life partners is more than the sexual aspects, but also the emotional and supportive aspect. That being said, the risk will always be there, and you have to be very cautious of your sexual activities with her, and take the advice from a professional on how to proceed intimately.

No, your not crazy. No one is perfect, and just because a person has a condition, that doesn't mean that they should be exclusive to society.

SO gets "cold sores".  Can feel outbreaks well ahead.  Also has Rx for Valtrex which supresses & shortens outbreaks.   It can be inconvenient at times...  if you're horny.
