Just got this from a provider I haven't seen in years.

"There is something bothering me. I am here in Maryland at the moment, taking time to look after my sick sister who was diagnosed with cancer of the liver. She is scheduled to be operated on in the coming days so I will remain here with her for a while to take care of her till she recuperates. I have a challenge though. We haven’t been able to complete the payment of the medical bills; we are $980 short of completing the payment of the medical bills. Can you please give me a loan so I can sort this? This surgery is the only remedy otherwise her liver will shutdown completely and which can eventually lead to the loss of her life. I promise to refund the loan within a short period of time. At the moment, this is uppermost on my mind. This is very important to me right now. Please I really need your help".

Any body else get this???

I never give money with an expectation of getting it back...if she really wants to earn some, have her see you and offer the companionship standard to your previous time together.

I can't image that anyone I know writing such a cold and unfeeling request for money.

I strongly suspect that a con artist is at work here and has raided the gals address book.

It's written like a political fund raising letter

I have $15,987,480.00 coming from this Prince I know in Nigeria, just as soon as the $50,000 that I sent him clears and the money is released I would be more than happy to help. There is no need to repay me, I am happy to help.

Why not go work instead of sitting around sending emails. $1000 can be made easily if you try. Probably with less effort then begging for money.

I agree that it is worded very strange. It does sound more like the scam emails you get then a plea for help

That Son-Of-a-Pig, he is only giving me $12,050,000.00. And I thought the Prince and I were good friends.

May he rot in a Pork Rind factory owned by an Infidel. Watching Dogs eat.

"So we can (sort) this" is very British, or  indicative of someone who learned English from a UK speaker. There are a few other Phrases that tell me this wasn't written by an American. Pay or DIE is more common in India and does NOT happen in the good Ol US. My uneducated guess is this scam was written by someone from India, but it's possible they would ask you to Western Union money to the US. I'd love to see the senders email address. I realize it's her hacked address, but you can still get trace info from it. You should google that address just to see what you find, but DO NOT SEND MONEY! I am 100 percent certain this is a scam.  Personally, I would fuck with them, but that's just me, I'm in asshole.

I have discovered the cure for all forms of cancer and am willing to provide the cure for your family member, but I will need to be paid shipping and handling fees of $24,650.00 in order to process your order and cure your family member.  Remittance must be by wire transfer or certified funds, please

Get your money. Then they will be gone. Yeah, this has scam written all over it.  I am not a medical professional but the people  I know that were diagnosed with liver cancer did not undergo surgery as they were treated with chemo and radiation and they didn't make it so this is a pretty lame excuse for money. Don't mean to offend anyone if they lost someone to liver or any type of cancer.

It sounds like the emails you get from 'The Prince of Ethiopia', who wants to leave you his family fortune. All you have to do is give him your bank account, and SS number.

GaGambler, That's a good one
I got one of those offers too. When they cash my check I will do the same.
You know, I don't understand their business model.  I guess the way those folks in Nigeria can profit
is to make it up on volume.

Well , not this exact appeal for financial assistance.
But I've received similar request through the years.

I've helped others. but never in response to this kind of appeal.
In my history every lady who sent out these request promised to repay the loan.  But with no exception the lady soon disappeared rather quickly.....complete crickets.

Send the $$ if you want. But consider it a retirement gift....not an emergency loan.

I would suggest contacting the lady in question, directly in either a new email, PM or text, not by hitting "reply" and give her a heads up that this is happening under her good name. Most likely she will be completely unaware this is happening unless and until someone gives her a heads up.

If it turns out it's actually her, than a very polite "go fuck yourself" most likely would be in order. but it's highly doubtful that she is behind it.

I would probably get to advertising my services, selling old personal belongings, and praying if it was me. It would feel unprofessional asking for a free handout from clients.

Got a similar request about a year ago.   They asked for $1000 to help pay for a kidney transplant for the sister of a provider I had seen numerous times over several years but has apparently retired.   The request supposedly came from the provider herself using her provider name.  What the scammer didn't know was that I know the real name and number of the provider and she knows my name and number and has even stayed at my place for a week end.
If she needed the money she could've just picked up the phone.  At one point she worked for a well established agency that was involved in a well publicized bust.  I think someone at that agency got her cllient info and gave it a shot.  Remember a fool and his money are soon parted
