I realize that that the term hobbyist is a rather amorphous one, so that brings to mind several questions : if a guy goes to the blvd. & picks up a SW, does that automatically make him a hobbyist? Would the same apply if he went to a brothel ? Or pehaps he would only meet the "requirements" if he contacted a provider by phone, had an incall or outcall session & posted a TER review.

I realize all of this is quite subjective, so any input from you folks out there would be quite interesting.

Someone else might propose marriage with a million dollar engagement ring and think he's the furthest think from a hobbyist.  OK, whatever.

I've been paying to get laid for a long time, but never referred to it as a "hobby" until I found TER last year.  I only call it that now because that's the language spoken here.

Are you a "hobbyist" without TER or a site like it?  I don't know.  I did not used to put so much time and effort into research and selection of my provider prior to finding TER, but, then again, I didn't know the resource was there or I would have used it.  I have had some of my best experiences in the "hobby" over the past year since I found it.

IMHO, "hobby" is all inclusive, and means the amount of time, the research, the discussion, and the sessions themselves.  I think it also requires growth like any other hobby to qualify as a hobby, and that growth can't come without practice and putting the time into it.

If you frequent ladies who charge for their um, time, and you make this into a hobby of sorts, you are a hobbyist. At least, that's how I see it. It doesn't matter the quality of the girl or where you find her, but that you do it with some frequency.

Its mostly your opinion about the hobby.  Most men will play if the opportunity presents itself.  But a hobbyist is actively seeking to enjoy the services of providers.

I will tell you exactly what defines a hobbyist.  I am one and it takes one to know one.  A hobbyist is a man who as a life style sees escorts and other women for hire.  There are varying degrees of frequency, but all hobbyists see ho's and spend $$ on them.  The typical hobbyist does not see one escort many times.  He sees many different escorts.  Having sex with different women that he pays for is his hobby.

Some men are married and do their hobbying behind their wives back.  I am single and many of my hobbyist friends are single and this is our chosen life style in place of a GF or wife.  We do not have the joys of a wife, nor the aggravation and most of us are fairly well to do and never have to worry about giving half of our assets to an ex-wife in a divorce.

In a typical week I will see a TS escort, a genetic escort and a professional Asian shiatsu massage girl with happy ending.  My preferance is to rarely see the same girl more than once because to ME that has the feeling of a relationship (despite one based on sex) and I prefer to keep it impersonal via seeing different women each time.

IMO, for most men, seeing women as sex objects, "works".  More than that and there are possible complexities.

The questions you asked in your first paragraph IMO reveal a man who is seeing an escort.  He is not a hobbyist.  IMO, a hobbyist is a man who sees escorts as a life style and on a regular basis.

Most guys who I know who are hobbyists devote many hours a week researching different escorts and male bonding with other fellow hobbyists in fine tuning our hobby and sharing info on good ho's at fair prices. We have a half dozen or so GT's (get togethers) a year to revel and share in our favorite life style, which is hobbying.
