How do you know you have HPV?

Well, I am planning to get tested for STDs soon just as a precaution.  Apparently, many people carry herpes and HPV without ever realizing it due to lack of any of the severe symptoms.

While I see there are ways to test for herpes, how do you test for HPV (causes genital warts) if you don't develop actual warts?

I don't want to unwittingly pass it along, and it seems like the only tests out there are specifically designed for women.

Thanks.

The below link may answer your specific question.
If not, you can ask questions in that forum.

The key to that site is that a doctor answers the
questions.  The same is true of Craig's List's
safe sex forum (actually, on CL they are
professionals but not necessarily MDs).

The site came from historian05 on the Philly
board a while back.

I read that 90% of all sexually active adults have some form of HPV. Not all pose serious health risks but you need to be checked often to be safe.

Early detection is best and you are never 100% cured (it comes back). Not all types show up as genital warts and more severe types cause cervical cancer.

Safe sex is always best!
