I once had sex in a new car in a park full of lilac, and we ate fresh baked brownies afterwards.  I smelled my fingers all day the next day.  The smelled like chocolate.

Just walked home past a park full of newly cut grass and thought 'that's a smell that makes me feel great to be alive'!! Which set me wondering about our favourite smells (not necessarily sexual :)

I've come up with cut grass, sandalwood and jasmine so far as smells I adore.....must be many more if I think about it longer.....

Anybody else?

That "escape" perfume (no idea who puts it out but it drives me insane).  My cocolate chip bannana bread recipe.  And that fresh smell first thing in the morning when it rained the night before. You know, when all the toxins have been washed out of the air? hehe.

By the time I got a couple of responses into this thread I had a big smile one my face, lovely to hear of everybody favourite smells and memories associated with them.

Ignatius Reilly the 'Escape' perfume is by Calvin Klein, it's my favourite too.  I also love that old aftershave Kourous (don't know who by) because it reminds me of one of my first boyfriends.  (Recently, I used to embarrass my colleague at work by insisting on sniffing him frequently during the day if he wore it!)

My favorite smell is not an aroma, it is the essence (probably pheromones) of pussy that can linger on a man's fingers and genitals for a day or two after intimacy.

I'm not sure everyone can "smell" it (you may have to be a man).  And the essence I refer to is not always present - may depend on the woman's sexual/reproductive biorythms.

Even after bathing and many handwashings the next day, that distinctive essence is clearly eveident and has a deeply satisfying effect on me - allowing a pleasant "basking in the afterglow" feeling.

As for smells/scents: go outside after a violent thunderstorm has passed, the plants are noticeably greener and the smell is pristine in the cool stillness.  Also, baking bread, the Hawaiian Pikake flower, puppies (what is that puppy smell, anyway?) and the smell of any gourmet meal as it casts it wonderful aroma throughout the house....

Fresh coffee brewing! I love that smell. Hate the taste of coffee, though, just love the smell :)

Ditto on the Coffee, both the smell and taste, love the smell, hate the taste..

I love the smell of  fresh coffee brewing........The other smell I....well I am not sure if I enjoy, as much as I like, that it reminds me of my father and all the stories he would tell us about his childhood on the ranch. The smell of stables either horse or cow. It has a smell so particular you can smell it a mile away. Again, I enjoy the memories with my father as we walked and  laughed during his story telling. Our senses are so delicate it is amazing how we can relive our past.
Kisses & licks......

I'm with you on this one, frankd.  There's nothing better than the scent of a woman that stays with you for a couple of days.  Nothing pungent.  Just a hint here and there that makes you take a deep breath and smile.

I love the essence that remains from the scent that she wears that smells unique because it is blended with her natural scents.
The scents that both our bodies create , even when just touched together for a moment.
The scent that excitment creates, of the nervousness of the first meet. It just seems to stay with me. Walk outside , the winds blow and whiffs of the essence float in the air. Falling back towards me to be taken in anew.

Yeah, that's what i like
Damn!

I could never narrow it down to a favorite.

I love citrus smells, and lavender and sandalwood. Vanilla too.

There is a park in Nagoya, Japan that is filled with gardenias, very pleasant in summer. Honeysuckles I love, too... my house has them in abundance.

In the Phillipines, I love the smell of mangos... Phil. mangos are unbelievable. I love the scent of a woman's hair when she has just showered.

Some perfumes are irresistable to me: Chopard's Kashmir especially (hard to find nowadays.)

While its hard to define, I love the sent of the sea... kind of salt and mist and time; it is the perfume of the Earth.

I had a fascinating "scent" experience driving home the other evening: there had been some tornados, and a serious hailstorm had shredded the tops of pine trees on the street leading to my house... the roadway was covered with a carpet of green, and the whole air was redolent with the heady scent of pine; combined with the mist-hung trees, the surreality of the calm after the storm, and the CD playing in my car (Murray Perahia's brilliant new recording of Bach's Goldberg Variations) the whole effect was extaordinarily pleasant.

O.

you ask anymore leading questions like this! And is Caprice going to visit with you anywhere in the western U.S.? Not that I'm greedy or anything. lol

Growing up, we had rose bushes and lilac bushes in our back yard and honeysuckle growing on the fence. In the springtime, after getting home from school, my Mom and I would sit at the picnic table and drink iced tea. Thank you for brining back that memory!

There isn't a sexier smell than my bedroom after some wild and intense sex..... a little sweaty, musky, and that indescribable scent of one another's juices.

I also love the smell of a baby just after a bath. So clean and sweet!

Brownies or Apple Pie that has just come out of my oven....

The new car smell from my new car...

Thinking of these things has put me in a great mood and can't wait to start the day....

Off to go find some lilacs and roses for the dinner table.

xoxo
Brooke

Thanks!

I don't often post lyrics or suchlike on bulletin boards, but the lyrics to this song seem appropriate for this thread:

Coconut

I like coconuts
You can break them open
They smell like ladies lying in the sun
I like coconuts
You can break them open
They smell like ladies lying in the sun
And if I had my way
I'd give a coconut to everyone

I got a friend named Jack
Look like a bone in a paper sack
That's my friend Jack
C'mon Jack, smell these coconuts
There's enough for everyone
Jackie likes the smell of cut grass
He used to play ball on Saturdays
Playing in the sun
Jackie likes the smell of cut grass
He used to play ball on Saturdays
Playing in the sun
If Jackie had his way
He'd give some cut grass to everyone.

It's time to play
Never tasted such a sweet thing
Yesterdays
Sweet memories my heart's repeating
Time today
Everybody's heart is beating
Everybody's smile is greeting
Everybody's soul is heating (eating?)

I know a guy named Fred
Look like a bone in a slanted shed
That's my friend Fred
C'mon Fred, smell these coconuts
There's enough for everyone
Freddy likes the sound of cold drink
He used to pop tops on Saturday
Sipping in the sun
Freddy likes the sound of cold drink
He used to pop tops on Saturday
He was sipping in the sun
And if Freddy had his way
He'd give a cold drink to everyone

Gonna follow my nose to where the coconut grows
Nobody knows like I know my nose knows
Gonna follow my nose to where the coconut grows
Nobody knows like I know my nose knows
Gonna follow my nose to where the coconut grows
Nobody knows like I know my nose knows
Gonna follow my nose to where the coconut grows
Nobody knows like I know my nose knows

I like coconuts
You can break them open
And they smell like ladies lying in the sun

Carrie--

You just really got me to thinking.  I was actually being productive, yet I was distracted by all the good smell-associated memories... so... just a quick post and then back to work...

gasoline--seriously!  It reminds me of the boat livery we used to go to when we needed to gas up the boat.  Water skiing, fishing, Grandma and Grandpa, swimming, fun cousins...

leaf mold--clean, beautiful woods

snowfall

my mom's clean laundry--isn't that strange?  It doesn't matter how old I get, or what detergent she switches too--it always has this awesome MOM smell.  Sometimes when I go to visit her, I bury my face in the towels she puts out for me.

good dog-smell--you know, some dogs are stinky, and some dogs smell like comfort and peace.  The dogs I have now smell great.

tomato plants

a particular lover--his hair, his temples, His neck, us after sex. When we first started seeing each other, I'd walk around smelling my hands for a day after we were together.

Well, Carrie, you have greatly improved my mood and my disposition today.  The world around me thanks you (and so do I).

Love,
Anne

How about the smell of azaleas and dogwoods.

I agree with all of the other favorite smells and will add yet another couple. The smell in the air of early morning dew, the sweat of a thoroughbred after a workout and fresh hay. Later in the afternoon, the aroma of Maker's Mark or Rare Breed Wild Turkey mixed with that special syrup, crushed ice and a fresh sprig of mint in a frosted glass to create the perfect mint julep!

Imagine seeing a garland of fresh roses and being close enough to enjoy the beauty of them.

If you smell these things, it means you are partaking in the greatest two minutes in American sports, The Kentucky Derby.

As the song says, 'It's the chance of a lifetime in a lifetime of chance, and it's high time you joined in the dance!'

This is my favorite time of the year, the opportunity to rejuvinate, revitalize and enjoy life's simple pleasures.

Only 3 days, 3 hours and 9 minutes remain until showtime!

As you know Carrie...the smell of a forested mountain road or salt air along the coast, twisty roads of course.

"Hoppes" gun cleaning solvent, or "Obsession" perfume.
Why?, because they smell identical.

Now, I have smelled them both right out of the bottle, and I have smelled Obsession on a beautiful Woman.

I have never had the opportunity to smell "Hoppes" on a Woman to see if it smelled the same here as well.

I love the smell of cinnamon ... and if there is a provider who shares the same taste, and in Southern Caliofrnia ... I want to meet her!

The smell of Eucalyptus(sp) trees, the smell of an ocean breeze, anything with apple and cinnamon.  Common thread on smells, don't they all evoke a certain memory?  I think so!!

Or conventionally petrol (gasoline) and tar (tarmac)

A post below said the essence of his lover. Not all women leave a fantastic essence on you but when they do you never want it to leave.  But he said hands and genitals - let me say the smell on my face.  When I've really earned it there may be no better smell.  Especially since you get to remember going down on her every time a gentle breeze causes the scent to return or if you just inhale a little deeper.  Finger pick up other scents throughout the day but your upper lip really doesn't nor does the tip of your nose.

Anyway, here's the two we've missed so far:

A tobacco shop.  I hate the smell of cigarette and cigar smoke! BUT the smells in a tobacco shop are amazing.

And secondly (more individual) is the scent of your favorite perfume that you've given someone who you really love to fuck and they wear it during the day and their body mixes with it.  I gave my wife Hanae Mori once (a very nice vanilla eau de toilette) and when she wears it and the day is warm I just want to consume her.  Her scent trigger is actually a cheaper cologne that I get from Eddie Bauer called Adventurer but the reason is we packed light for our honeymoon (hopping trains and such) and this is the only one I took to Europe so she always associates it with drinking a bottle of wine in Piazza San Marco or riding the tram down the Zugspitz.

Hmmm...roses, lavender, a sidewalk just wet from the rain. :)

A mild island breeze chases the morning mist through the hills of Hvar. It bears a scent-laden bouquet of fresh lavender, fig blossoms and rosemary, through open windows and blends with the aroma of freshly baked breads and cakes from the kitchen below. It all mingles with the scent of my lover's hair, and the smell of her body next to me. There is nothing else like it in the world!

mountain.  Unbelievably strong and life-affirming, especially if it's been a long expedition.

This is really wierd, but besides what I mentioned to frankd, I like the smell of fiberglass.  I can't really describe the smell.  It will never be made into a perfume or incense.  That's for sure.  But, when I was little, my dad's boat factory was only a mile from home, and whenever we came home, we had to drive right by the plant.  I don't know, even today the smell of fiberglass makes me feel like I'm coming home.

Trip,

That smell is styrene monomer or polystyrene (very sweet smelling aromatic) - an unmistakeable aroma.  When heated or catalyzed by peroxide, it hardens around the fiber substrate to make, voila! FIBERGLASS.

I too, like that smell.  It's interesting that is toxic by inhalation and some folks, once overeexposed, develop a hypersensitivity to it and can't work around it anymore.  That condition has ended a few surfboard making careers.  Any similar problems at your Dad's shop?

As an aside, somebody mentioned the smell of gasoline in the old days.  Man, as a kid, I loved the smell of gasoline, I thought maybe that my perception of the smell changed as I "matured".  Never gave any though to the changes in formulation.

y'all be cool...

When my son was young, we would go to a local abbey where the monks raised Christmas trees all year.  My wife, son, and I would wander through the snow all day, looking for just the perfect candidate. My son had the honor of cutting down our selection (although I always "helped").  Then, we'd sing carols all the way home.  The next morning, when we came downstairs, the smell of Christmas was so thick you could almost taste it.

Another favorite smell was my wife's hair.  I was very subtle, and kind of a peach-citrus-strawberry-ish smell.  It's funny, but her shampoo in its bottle didn't smell anything like her hair.  I like to think that was her own aroma.

the nape of her neck

the smell of fresh baked Irish soda bread

the smell of my grandson's belly when I give belly farts

the wind blowing, filled with the smell of a woman's scent from around the corner

the smell of a rose.

the scent of Jung upon a woman's wrist

it is the subtly of life that stirs my senses

The smell of wood smoke on a crisp clear morning

Fresh bread baking, the air after it rains in the summer, the ocean ( I raced sailboats for years and associate that smell with good memories). the smell of a cider mill on a fall day back in my little hometown.

In the toxic, but nice category- laquer thinner, denatured alcohol, and gasoline from my youth before the oxgenated/additives to make it burn cleaner made it vile smelling.  Old race cars or motorcycles running castor based lubricants.  The smell of an old airplane or sports car with leather seats (before all the modern coatings) and the smell of hot oil wafting from the engine (I flew in an open cockpit Stearman at sunset one warm summer night and the smells were wonderful as we flew through the canyons of So. Cal.).  You probably have to be a guy to appreciate these, because they are the fond memories associated with your youth.

And similar to what others have mentioned, the scent of a woman on the pillow after she's spent the night.  I can enjoy that smell for days and it's an instant reminder of her presence and the time we shared.  She can still talk to me long after she's gone.

No question in my mind, not even a close second.  As a boy in the spring (the end of May, school was out for the year) in the rural south, in the morning before the day heated up, lying in bed: the smell of cut grass.  It meant the day had so much ... potential.
