TER General Board

A different point of view

On some local boards there are frequent, expansive discussions on general topics of broad interest. I find myself scanning all the boards to read these discussions. At first, I hesitated to take part on local boards outside my region. Yet, they're so general and universal that I eventually got involved in them.

I'm really only expressing a desire to have people present general topics on the general discussion board, so more people will get involved and the collaborative knowledge will be more easily accessible to everyone. It's no more than a humble request. Naturally, we should all post whatever we want, wherever we want.

Thanks,
rik

Riker,

Since your multiple post on all the local boards actually belongs here, I thought it appropriate that I respond here as well. After I replied to your post on the Boston Discussion Board, you responded in part,

“I add my desire to see people use the general discussion board for general topics more often.”

Unfortunately, what you meant to say and what you said had far different meanings. The message that you left on the local boards read

“Don’t post twice on TER! Use the general board as much as possible.”

Seasoned posters would probably know that you meant “post general topic messages on the general board.” However, consider the possibility that your suggestion/chastisement may cause the infrequent or newbie poster to hesitate before joining in on the local discussion.

When I began as Moderator of the Boston Board, Staff promised me two things.

1. All the “chowdah” I could eat.
2. The freedom to use my discretion.

In Boston, (unfortunately) TBD castes a big shadow over TER. Local TER posts consist mainly of local ladies' schedules for the week and (far two often) unanswered ISO requests from the gentlemen. In my first month as moderator, I tried not to stir the pot, hoping the local community would come on its own. However, more and more unanswered posts by newbie/infrequent posters on TER Boston were then posted on TBD Boston. The TBD posts usually received multiple replies. Net result, these posters tend to give up on TER Boston. I now reply to more posts than I did in the beginning. Slowly the local TER community seems to be growing.

As I posted in reply to you on the Boston discussion board, I regularly read and occasionally post to the General board. However, there was a time when I only visited this (Boston) board. I see nothing wrong with posting a general question here. If it creates more interaction among the local posters, what's wrong with that? I will do nothing to discourage interaction if it will help the local TER community grow. I say post whatever you want as long as it is related to the hobby, it is not insulting to another poster and it does not reveal personal information.

You have a right to make your humble request Riker. However, the way you did it showed poor judgment. You posted as a response to the following message on the general board in which another poster pointed out that the same message had been posted on the L.A. board.

A couple of additional points to consider.

1. Obviously the L.A. board moderator (is that you GND?) didn’t have a problem with this post going on the local board. If (s)he did,
2. Moderators have the ability to move posts to the message queue of a more appropriate board.

If I’m wrong about this, Staff please let me know. GND feel free to spank me ;)

Let's not discourage discussion on local boards.  Without interesting topics, all they would be left with is ISOs and ads.

One exception:  I do wish more people would post their messages on topics of general interest to the National instead of the Los Angeles board.  Lots of great topics fly by on the busy L.A. board, and by the time some of us have a chance to reply to many of them, they're on page two and already forgotten.

but lets not forget to encourage posters to place their
jokes, whether erotic or not, in the Erotic Humor board.
I think we could all use more humor!
Just my 2 cents

an item of discussion I automatically do it on the L.A. board, my local one. Although I read and post on the national board, it seems I have developed a feel for my fellow posters on the LA board and trust their opinions more than those of "strangers" on the national board.

The original post was an out-of-context reply to a message within a general discussion, that's why it didn't hold the right meaning when transfered to other boards.

I apologize.

It just goes to emphasize the potential confusion of posting the same message in more than one place.

I also apologize for all my Ooops messages. I accidentally hit Enter repeatedly when I was trying to Tab.
