As you say, it is a matter of degrees. Anyway, most people I know who have money have worked extremely hard to get it, rather than having lucked into it (e.g., through inheritance). So I'm not too critical about how they choose to spend their hard-earned money.
In some cases, those who pay $1k+ for a provider may be doing so simply because they can (although I do wonder who would know about it, so who are they trying to impress). But if I were going to pay $1k--and I did start a thread on this subject--it would only be because I had the funds available (again, from working my @ss off) and I thought I could get a better experience by paying top dollar. If it turns out I can get what I want--gorgeous, great attitude, smart, sexy, etc.--for $$ rather than $1k, I would do that instead. I would never spend money just for the sake of spending money. But I guess, without knowing anything about this market, I start with the presumption, which could be completely false, that you get what you pay for.
