Just got finished watching a movie on Netflix "1900" with Tim Roth which came out in 1998. Tim Roth plays a character that never leaves the ocean cruiser he was born on, never sets foot on land. The best scene in the movie is a faceoff between Tim Roth's piano virtuoso character and Jelly Roll Morton, arguably one of the best Jazz musicians in history.

The reason I post it here is that Jelly Roll Morton learned to play the piano in a cat-house. So while the house was rockin' and sockin' he would provide the appropriate music, full of sex, passion and mischief. It made me think about how things have changed so radically in the course of a single century. While then, life seemed covered in velvet and leather, now often it seems steeped in sterility. Where are we today and where are we headed?
