Doing my hobby reading today and ran across this one. Made me think of TER, since it seems to me the general consensus here is that such pimps are real, and not that uncommon - this urban legend is not confined to the anti-sex work crusaders.
Add another one to the common wisdom around here that just ain't true.

Are you saying you don't buy that any of these categories exist? I hope not.
It's a simple definition really...anyone who makes MONEY off of someone else's WORK, can be labeled a pimp. I call myself an agency owner, but really...I guess some would say I am a pimp, because I do in fact make money every time one of my girls does a call. Then again, I also work myself, so I understand the dangers and logistics, unlike some 'guy' who just takes the money.
There are many variations of pimps:
A. The trafficker pimp- One who FORCES an individual to have sex for his/her own profit, against their will.
B. The street walker pimp- One who literally walks the streets with his girls and keeps them in line, and makes sure they see x amount of guys in y amount of time. Normally takes 3/4 of what they make.
C. The agency owner pimp-A person who runs a legit agency, does screening, and monitors who a girl sees, for how long, and for how much. Usually takes half or at least a third of every call.
D. The Wanna Be Pimp- Some jackass who gets girls off of facebook and SD sites, and turns them out so to speak to his friends, and any guy in a bar that is looking desperate.

Your list makes sense, but my question is does anyone really care? We've seen a lot of threads lately about semantics so perhaps I'm just tired of the subject. FWIW, I don't think any of the girls I've seen has a classic pimp, except for agency girls, and I've seen more than a few of them. Myself, I handle some of the screening for one lady, in return for which I get what she calls "free muff." So I profit to some extent from my efforts and hers. I don't think that makes me a pimp, just a "facilitator of prostitution." Spank me!
The stereotypical pimp - a flashy guy who finds ladies, introduces them to the business and runs a stable, collecting money off the top and using muscle on them to keep them in line, and on other guys who cross him or his ladies - is a very rare, almost mythical, being these days. For all that, the word is used all the time, the concept referenced often.
I was not trying to engage London or anyone else in a semantical dialogue about who is and is not a pimp, nor does the article suggest that if one reads it. Yes, one can say that anyone who provides any assistance to a provider is a pimp, but I doubt that people mean booker, landlady, driver or many of the other roles mentioned when they say pimp.
Of course, some people can start an argument with themselves in a dark room about whether it is nighttime, the lights are out, both, or neither. I will not name names, nor let myself be drawn into those endless disputes (but CCPA, I am thinking of you, you crusty old bastard).

I can keep it going for hours...and also win it every time.
It's good to be the King!

You do know that you would lose the argument, too? Sorry if I am raining on your parade.

Hard (pun intended) to stay focused.
As we have discussed numerous times...know when to fight the fight, and live to fight another day.
Now...I am looking forward to staring at her 36D's along with that gorgeous smile.
You...meh Not so much!

You forgot the "boyfriend pimp"... where he's not really a pimp, his gf is an escort already, & every now & then, she'll throw him $50-$100... but he tells everyone he's a pimp, lol... I hear about this a lot(mainly with the BP only ladies), & in reality, she "runs" him, more than he has any say-so in her doings. These are the one's that many gents run into(the "I got robbed/strong armed", the "there was a scary black dude waiting in the parking lot", etc, etc), & they're not actually "pimps"... more-so in the "wanna-be" category, lol.

I think most agencies handle bookings, hotels, travel, some may even provide additional benefits to their "employees". They do not "exploit" the girls (at least that is my impression of the local agency I use - they take good care of the girls, when they can't work because they are ill, etc.). Pimps only care about themselves; they are very insecure individuals and "get off" on the "power" they have over these women; often an abusive relationship. That's just my opinion.
You'd be eating most of what you just babbled.
Just saying!
Yes these categories certainly do exist because we have a big problem here in Alabama with category

Here's one from Atlanta masquerading as a TER hobbist
http://theeroticreview.com/discussion_boards/viewmsg.asp?MessageID=218031&boardID=18&page=2
says anything about what should or should not be posted. It was a moronic interpretation of what I was saying, particularly since my whole mantra since I've been on the board, and especially when I was a Mod of this particular board, has been that no post within the forum topic is a bad post.
Lighten up.
Yes. That post was way above my head.
As a lesser "Novice" I read..
"Get away with your stupid redundant, small confidence questions."
"Your lack of confidence has no place here."
Not exactly the kinda forum I would pay to be a part of...
Don't scare them away.
You know you did not have to use super words to get your point across.
But you did. Why?
If you were a moderator???
Maybe I don't understand.
It helps to get off the board & read a newspaper every now & then. --z
