The advice given by carlspackler is accurate according to my experience.  I had a small group health plan for my small business, and I had to provide all sorts of documentation that the people covered were on my payroll as employees (payroll and tax records).

AIM health care in LA offers health care services through Blue Cross to all sex workers: exotic dancers, porn stars, and escorts.  If you are in LA contact them.  They will give you the number of the agent who will sign you up.  I've had insurance through them for three years.

I was given several plans and options to choose my coverage through BLUE CROSS and I was treated as a normal person.  Stop trying to demonize the profession you idiot, you don't know who you are arguing against.

I had all the normal options of someone shopping for health insurance.  Trust me I know, it is my insurance not yours you dufus!

You just don't understand the situation at all Carl.
Fisrt of all, we are not low income.  If we were low income we would have another low income job.  We don't want free insurance we want good relatively cheap insurance, don't you?

I don't understand why you think providers would not qualify for ordinary health care plans when other independent contractors can qualify.  Porn stars, escorts, and strippers can get health insurance like ordianry people.  There is no special exception that prevents us from this benefit.  There is some prejudice toward wanting to insure the group because of fear of HIV due to increased promiscuity.  However,  any good natured organization like AIM healthcare (a private non-profit organization--> not state!) can make a proper liason for health insurance.

You are discouraging these women from getting insurance by suggesting they do not qualify and they do qualify.  It is probably more important that sex workers watch their health than any other group of people.  Your opinion is full of much misinformation that you do not realize.

Just sit back and let the nice provider who started this thread try to drum up support for a health plan for other women.  We need it.  Leave your doubts to yourself, this goal is higher than your lofty opinion.  No insurance fraud is going to happen because it is not needed in order to gain coverage.

You are just not in the dark about this profession and your opinion is not appreciated.

I think you, A Provider, are referring to Adult Industry Medical Health Care Foundation (see link below).  Am I right?

I don't get the impression Carl is saying that providers don't qualify for health insurance--just that "you can't form a group specifically to purchase health insurance."  Adult Industry Medical Health Care Foundation provides many other services to the sexworker community besides health insurance.

I believe Carl and the others are trying to help us protect ourselves from fraud by generously offering their expertise, and they do not deserve to be beaten up for it.  I am grateful to them and would hate for people like them to be discouraged from trying to help us in the future.

BTW, I consider health insurance to be indispensible and encourage everyone who doesn't already have it to look into getting it... legitimately.  From what I've read, AIM (link below) might be a good place to start looking.  http://www.ehealthinsurance.com is another.

and your hostile response to him makes you sound less credible.  Because of that, I am removing your contact information from your posts.

I'm also an insurance agent, and everything Carl says here in this thread is 100% accurate.  She may have "pulled something off", but it will almost certainly fall apart before long, and it'll be ugly when it does.  Be very VERY leery of this.

Sorry about my rude repsonse just frustrated-I would be more than happy to explain to the ins agents out there how this is working with the APPROVAL of the local Massachusetts conatct perosns for the insurance companies if you wish to email me...I have and am doing nothing immoral/illegal/ fraudulent etc.

Thanks
MissKimberlyBstn

I do not own my own brokerage firm nor am I an agent. I do however own my own business that provides a group plan for my employees. I am impressed that you were able to "pull one off", however, in order to do that you must have stretched the truth a looooooooooong way. You might get away with it, and really, no offense to anyone here, I hope you do 'cause I have no love for the insurance industry, but I do know first hand the almost inhuman attention to detail these carriers give when it comes to paying on a claim. Remember, they don't like to pay out. It seems to me that sooner or later you will be called on any or all the lies you must have told in order to get the coverage in the first place. I wish you luck but I think that most people who once thought they could get away with insurance fraud are probably sitting in jail right now.
