I can see all kinds of dating sites shutting down if there is even an iota's bit of evidence some gals are using it to procure paid rendezvouses.
I did advertise on CL several years ago, but even then female ads would get pulled within hours of posting. So frustrating.
This whole thing just makes me sick. I love my job. LOVE IT!! I look forward to seeing my regular clients and meeting new ones. I consider many of my clients good friends.
I was floundering for years in the corporate world living in a cubicle and looking forward only to the weekend. I now have a successful career that I thoroughly enjoy.
It is awful for the girls that are forced to do this profession, but I am NOT one of them.

How is law enforcement going to know if two people hook up that there's going to be evidence of prostitution? Unless they go on the date and witness the transaction for sex for money, I doubt just a hint of prostitution is going to shut down a dating website.
CL was a haven for folks seeking alternative lifestyles and "missed connections" but couldn't/wouldn't be a part of the hobby.
This has huge first amendment rights issues. Like. There are cruising/poly/kink groups on Facebook with really explicit language. What's Facebook going to do about it.

I'm on there. You can tell by the language people use. "allowance per meeting"
That type of advertisement is against the TOS for those sites. If the arrangement sites survive Sesta/Fosta, I imagine this will be even more aggressively enforced.
In the past, there was a DMCA-like method to get rid of offending material.
Just report it, and it would be taken down.
Now, rather than dealing with individual complaints, they just shut down the whole site.

Sites are taking themselves off-line to stay safe (there is a "retroactive" clause in the bill) until things become clearer. At this point, Trump hasn't signed the bill so it isn't enforceable. Assuming he signs it, then the lawsuits will start. There seems to be a good chance that at least parts of the law are unconstitutional, but that is for Federal courts to decide. Depending on if there are disagreements between the different Federal districts, the law may have to be decided by the Supreme Court. That may take years. It's also possible that the Justice Department may not enforce the law or may interpret it differently than expected. But entire it gets signed and reviewed by a court or two, no one knows what the actual impact will be. TER, CityVibe, Craigslist, and others are just playing it safe and we all have to wait and see what happens.
