Downtown (near Broadway and the Gulch) is great but it will be pricey. The best restaurants are there and nightlife is not Vegas but still pretty good.
Out by the airport/Opryland is less expensive but it will limit you on restaurants and entertainment. Brentwood is surburia and moderately priced and easy to get around. Hope this helps.

Be careful, there's a hotel by the airport that I stayed in where the hotel staff were in ops with the police, that was 4years ago but still be careful... Screen very well!!!
