Suggestion and Policy

You were right the first time. You ran out of room.

Not sure what a browser would have to do with character space in the subject line box.
Anyway I hope you figured out the PM notification.

With a totally different view, or what; but I can be absolutely anywhere on the site and as long as I'm logged in I get a little message when there's any mail. It's over on the right, under my handle and clicking it takes me to the inbox.

Actually, you're correct, it is my browser. I almost never scroll over to see what's on the right. Thanks.

I just tested it and his message used every available space. There isn't even room for a simple "e."

I forgot to mention that because I almost never check that email account. When I signed up for TER many years ago, I created an email just for that purpose. I have actually done that for most sites I belong too. Anyway, I check that email account 3 or 4 times a year and purge hundreds of emails from TER telling me I got a new PM, or one of my favorites have been updated, or they received my problem report, or "contact us" feedback. Lol.

I find it easier than logging into TER to find out if I have any messages.

I mentioned it because the OP asked for alternatives to checking his PM inbox to find out if he has any new PMs. It's another option, but obviously not a good one for someone like yourself who almost never checks the email account linked to TER.
