So I can appreciate TER wanting to provide some standardized guidelines to performance ratings; one person's 10 is another's 7. People had been lobbying TER to change the policies long before the recent change for the worse. Did you contribute to any of those threads?

AFTER the recent change, the forums were loud with protests and renewed suggestions. Did you join the chorus then?

Really like the idea of reviewers being able to clarify the reasons for their +1s and have those things be searchable. DT would be an easy one. Wouldn’t be too technically difficult to add some more fields

I'll not get on that bandwagon

But not for the reason you're probably thinking.

As already mentioned the whole TER scoring schema has been discussed and dissected for years . . . and stayed the same for whatever reasons the powers that be have. But that is not my real objection. The problem is about certain activities offering the upgrade on score: while some (and I suspect TER believes they have those covered) are probably widely shared many are not. As such there will always be some that don't think X matters but do think Z does.

We don't have specific criteria to get a 10 in looks. Yes, there are disagreements (and abuse) but we all get that different people have different tastes as well, beauty being in the eye of the beholder and such. Performance is really not much different so why distinguish some acts over others?

I think the guy that made the comment about having a review infrastructure that allows the reader (and searcher) to understand what the reviewer based the score on would be a huge improvement -- but it would be a completely different approach. Actually reading the review (and actually writing a helpful review) will still be needed but having a searchable/filterable collection of score drivers would probably help more than what we have now.

Also, I'm not sure why adding another, or a few more, options to allow the scores above 7 is really critical. A 9 or a 10 is going to get a look from others. An excuse to be able to give the 10 seems more about giving 10s than about reviewing for helping others know what they can expect.
