I think TER could use a techie board to allow people with questions regarding electronic communication technology.

For example, here's one that I am experiencing right now.

I have a four year old POS Dell Inspiron mini.  Granted I should update it with a better unit, but for various reasons I have to suffer with it for now.

Despite the best anti-virus/malware software and running frequent registry cleanings, it is slow and glitchy.

But here's what really stumps me:  I frequently like to link certain You Tube videos to my posts in order to illustrate a point.  Recently, I find that every time I try to do this, I get an error message when I try to open the video.  However, when I copy and paste the video's URL into the TER post, then post the message and open it within TER, it plays just fine.

Now I can see my crappy computer having trouble with You Tube for some reason, but then why can I then access the video when filtered through TER?

Does this make any sense?

Exactly how are you "linking" to the video? Or is the error occurring when you use the browser to go directly to YouTube and then hit the play button?

What is the specific error message?

Does it work if you copy/paste the video URL in a Word document (hit return after to make MS recognize it as a URL) and then double-click it?  

Do you have more than one browser (i.e., is your TER browser the same as that which you regulary use for YouTube viewing)?

Can you give an example (i.e. URL) of a post of yours that contains a "troublesome video"?

I link by copying and pasting the URL that comes up for the You Tube video in question into the URL link box that one sees while composing a post.

The error occurs when I try to open and play a You Tube video.  

The error message says:  An error has occurred, try again later.  It is in small white lettering against a hazy black background.

I tried to copy and paste into a word document and also tried Firefox, no dice.   I normally use IE.

The latest post was a video of Linda Ronstadt's Heart Like a Wheel, which I have linked to below.  I get an error message but I'm sure when I go to open it on TER, it will play just fine, as has been the case for a couple of weeks now.

I was able to reproduce your problem... I did play theatvideo from TER (you posted a day ago, I believe).

Just now, I went directly to YouTube, searched for the same video (it has Linda's face on it) and tried to play it:

1) Use Safari - OK, plays without problem
2) Use Firefox - NOK, I get the same error message.  

Did a quick Web search using "An error has occurred, try again later" and sure enough there are several posts that point to the Shockwave Flash player being at fault. I tried one suggestion - disable Shockwave and then re-enable it. This works  for me, but not permanently (after a couple of plays, the error re-occurs).

Other posts suggest adding the HTML5 player - it supposedly does not have the problem:

I just tried it and it appears to work.

Most of the tech issues are not specifically TER related (for example your youtube link issue has to do with flash player, not TER), and you can usually solve them with simple google searches. The issues that are specific to TER, you can always ask on the GD board or newbie board or another TER board. I still don't see a need for a special board for these questions.

found similar problems.  In most cases people there suggested that I reduce the bandwidth of the video (I didn't even know there was an option on the lower tool bar for that.)  I did this and then the problem went away.

Still doesn't explain why the videos worked on TER and not when I went directly, however.  Maybe somehow being on TER automatically reduced the bandwidth.
