Top Ten Posters.... Do you like or dislike being on this list?

On every board there is a "Top Ten Posters" list at the top that you can click on to see who is most active on that particular board.  I enjoy posting and being a part of this community.  However, when I see that I have made the "Top Ten" on any given board, I tend to back off and stop posting for a while to get my name off of that list or further down to the bottom.  Since we have 9 new regional boards, it is easy to be at the top of the list on them after only a few posts.  Personally I would prefer not to be on the "Top Ten" list.  But I still want to post and enjoy open discussion.

Please help me out here.  How do you feel about the "Top Ten" list?  Do you even think we need it?  What purpose does it serve?

I have been on this list for my city but I could really care less about the list.If there is a topic on the boards I want to reply to I will. There are a some people that seem to get bent out of shape with the Top 10 list in my city they make snide comments about the ladies and the gents that do post or are mainly the top poster for the board for the month.I do not know if we really need this and the only purpose I can see is to show who posts consistently on the boards.I rarely look at the top 10 list until someone points it out.

We have 9 new Regional Boards here on TER.  Someone recently used an alias on one of the new boards.  Since there were so few posts on this new board, it was very easy to figure out who the alias was.  It is against TER policy to out someone's alias.  Posters have a right to privacy if they choose to use an alias.  Yet having a Top Ten Posters list can hurt some people who would rather remain anonymous.

Furthermore, if it gets hot in an area and a lady or gent wants to lay low for a while, her/his name is still listed in the top 10!  I dunno.  I would prefer to (at the very least) have the choice of being on the list or not.  Not to long ago I read that the guys have the option to opt out of being on the Top Ten Posters list.  But I don't know if it is true.  Either way, it would be nice to have a choice.

So it may be irrelevant to you.  You are certainly entitled to your opinion.  And mostly it is not something I think about nor dwell on either.  But I will admit, it caught my attention today on that new board.  It got me to thinking how damaging it could be for some people to be listed on the Top Ten Posters list.

Just an observation.  Thanks for your input.

Peace, Betty
