STAFF....How about considering this regarding discussion boards

As the membership on TER has grown resultings in more posts, & as some of the threads are becoming increasingly long (particularly the LA & gen'l boards) can you make a change so that page#2 & so on, appear similarly to the first page with respect to showing already "read messages?"

In some cases page #1 fills up in 24hrs (even less at times)& it's a little annoying to view the following pages without an indication if the message has already been read.

That is really hard because it tracks the page in the URL.  When the page changes, your browser thinks it is a new link.  Sorry

I miss things for the exact reason greywolf mentions. It is simply too time consuming to look past the first page (unless I am doing a specific search for something) because I can't tell what I have already read.

Things remain on Page 1 long enough on the National Discussion Board. The major problem is the LA Discussion Board where the volume is high and items move off Page 1 very quickly. A larger page size to delay items moving to Page 2 would be a big help.

It is not hard to do, but it may cause dialup users to have to wait twice as long to see the threads.  It is up to you guys.  25 threads seems to be a standard though.

to determine previously visited links (thread id # and post id # sequenced) it could track all pages of the database regardless of generated url. That may be too much work depending on engine being used, table structure, current keyed fields, and front end structure. Cold fusion and oracle do it fairly easy with a little tweaking, while other simpler, less costly solutions wont do it or can be a nightmare making it work. just my 2 cents.
