Sorting of search results.

When we request that search results be sorted by date (the default and the option I use the most) could we have a stable order within a given date?  Currently the order of names within a date is random.  This doesn't matter much EXCEPT when new reviews are being added to the database.I do a search.  I start to look at the profiles selected.  While I am doing this a new review is added to the database.  I return from a profile to a page containing a list of search results and find that within a given date the names are in a completely different order.  I can't tell which names I have looked at and which ones I haven't.  Argghh!!!If the names were sorted by name within each day it would prevent this.  Actually, I don't care about the order within a date as long as it is stable.  Having the order of names within a date change every time the database is updated is driving me nuts.

The reviews by date are sorted by thelength of time that the provider has been in the database. The providers that have been in the database the longest are at the top. What does everyone think is a better way to sort the view by date?

subgroups of providers can appear in any order, or you have a bug and the sort isn't working the way you describe.I will provide an actual example of what I am talking about in a further message.--modified by Mathesar at Thu, Mar 22, 2001, 12:56:16

I search the database for Los Angeles Incall providers.  I use the default setting for ordering the search results so the search pages are ordered by date.On a search I did on 3/21/01 the first three providers for 3/13/2001 are: Julia, Breeze, Vanessa. On a search I did on 3/14/01 the first three providers for 3/13/2001 are Breeze, Vanessa, Julia.Julia moved from number 3 to number 1 in this group of three.  Even if all three have been in the database the same length of time these kind of jumps present a problem when there are several per page and you have many pages of search results.  (I typically look at about 15 to 16 pages -- a couple of hundred providers.)As I said in my first message, this kind of jumping around occurs when the database is being updated and these kind of jumps can occur when you go from the search results page to a profile and then back again.
