The colors for the time have to do with how old the message is.

green - within 24 hours
red - between 24 and 48 hours
black - over 48 hours

the red usernames are for moderators or staff

Hey! He is asking about the feeling icons

When you type in a message, there are a set of icons you can select from called "Feelings".
They are located just below the Subject line as you type in your message,
and appear at the beginning of the Subject when it is posted.  
Here are the meanings:

 Happy (joking)
 Unhappy (sad)
 Screaming at others (angry)
:-&  Tongue-tied (writer only wants to hear himself, angry)
 Laughing out loud (big grin, very happy)
 My lips are sealed (kiss)
