When someone tries to send TER mail to a member that is not active, the system should say "warning -- member not active, do you still want to send the mail?"  Either that or don't accept it at all when the member is not active.

I am suggesting this after seeing several people comment like this:

"Had no idea I was getting any directed to mein the VIP section until JUST NOW, indicating that I have mail dating all the way back to June!!! (I just became a member in September)"

Everyone is notified when the have private mail waiting the first time they login after the email is sent.  Also, on the tope of the screen it states that they have email. I would hope that having email waiting would entice people to either renew or to submit more reviews for their VIP memberships.  :-)

LM, remember, that’s what pays for the site.

If somebody is not an active member, they won't login and will never see "You have mail".  The senders of mail to this person have no idea that the receiver is not active or logging in.  You could at least give a warning to the sender that the member is not active.  Then the sender might contact the person in other ways and encourage them to rejoin.

Please see the quote from Felicia in my original posting.  People were sending her mail since June and she didn't know it but she was posting on the boards, so people thought she was ignoring them.

Staff,

Linkmeister is right..unless you're a VIP member the "you have mail" will NOT appear.  Each time I visit the site it shows "sorry, no new mail" & then as soon as I log on as VIP the other message will appear if there is new mail.

Actually, Greywolf, before you log in (basic member or VIP) the site does not know who you are.  Therefore can't check mail.

...if I should send mail to someone who can't receive it due to not having VIP memembership, would I be notified that my mail couldn't be delivered?  Same question applies if I send mail to a VIP member who posts as "Joe Doe" but his mail is under "John Q"???  I think in either case it would be nice if the sender was notified the mail was undeliverable.
