Suggestion and Policy

Here's a simple one that I can't believe hasn't come up before...

Simply:

Allow paragraph breaks with just 2 strokes of the return key instead of 3.

It would make so many posts easier to read.

Sorry mrfisher.  It came up right after they broke it in the first place during an "upgrade" many years ago:
http://www.theeroticreview.com/discussion-boards/suggestion-and-policy-4/another-method-cr---cr--15664
.
(There were earlier posts than that but they return the 'no longer available' error.)
.
It IS a simple suggestion and it SHOULD be simple to fix. But who knows what else they will break if they try?

I use the "character line holder" method.
text text text
.     ----- enter any character to hold this entire line. I use period . but you can use any character.
more text more text

I just entered a single spacebar space on the line above. I don't remember if it works or not so this is a test of
text text text
_ (invisible single spacebar space)
more text more text

EDIT: Test successful. A single spacebar space is sufficient to hold the entire blank line the same way a . period or other (visible) character does. But you can't "see" that you remembered to enter a space compared to a character . .

Is it a user end issue? I get a new paragraph with 2 strokes of the return key, and pretty sure it’s always been that way for me.

Thusly:

New paragraph.

This requires 3 taps of the enter key.

If you only tap twice,

This is what you get.

I find that the extra space makes a page much easier to read.

Did that issue just get fixed?

Looks like it might be the case.

I see PS's post with a blank line between the "paragraphs" but I see two blank lines in Mr. Fisher's response.

Wonder what this will be like?

Edit -- actually no blank line in PS's post so not so helpful there. But my post now has blank lines.

Now with 3 hits. . .  (should that be followed with "and the hits keep coming" or somethings? ;-) )

And after the second edit the two blank lines in my post changed to one.

I still prefer to use a line holding character to maintain the APPEARANCE of a paragraph break. That way, I can SEE it and know that it will show up correctly (as a fake paragraph break) for all others to see.
.   ------------- this period leaves an otherwise blank line ... and again on the next "blank" line
.
See? A "fake" paragraph break. But this gives me a chance to repeat my frequent S&P suggestion for TER to consider switching to open source forum software if and when they next upDATE (versus upGRADE) things.
:  ----- using a colon to hold a blank line also works, like this:
:
http://www.theeroticreview.com/discussion-boards/suggestion-and-policy-4/open-source-forums-and-databases-17126
http://www.theeroticreview.com/discussion-boards/suggestion-and-policy-4/agree-100-and-you-can-quote-me-on-that-16175
http://www.theeroticreview.com/discussion-boards/suggestion-and-policy-4/you-mean-like-is-found-in-free-open-source-forum-software-16207
http://www.theeroticreview.com/discussion-boards/suggestion-and-policy-4/like-real-forum-software-16319
-
That time, I used a single hyphen - to hold a blank line. Yes, if TER switches to Open Source Forum Software the biggest task would be migrating the old forums to the new forum system. There are tools to facilitate that. Once done, it's done! Thereafter, the open source programming community constantly updates and debugs the software for all users to benefit from.
!
And then I wouldn't have to use a ! to create a fake paragraph break in my posts!
