One of the biggest problems is that African American is used as a catch all to mean ALL black people, including those neither African nor American.  

I will concede that African American is a rather accurate way of describing the several million Americans who are descendants of slaves and have no way of knowing what actual country their ancestors came from. The problem is, there are hundreds of millions of black people who would be described by the politically correct and provincial minded among us who most certainly would not self identify as being African American. Much of South America is full of black people who would identify as Brazilian or Colombian NOT AA. The same can be said about the Caribbean, not to mention anyone actually from Africa. Or how about a French born person of African descent, just how in the fuck do you get African American out of that kind of mix?

Yeah, I am just fine with "black" to describe black people.

It goes back to the early days of TER, I think. The data fields should separate color or complexion from ethnicity or country of origin or other feature.

Some, such as myself, have suggested that the review form should contain a color pallet for designating "COMPLEXION" (color) regardless of her race, ethnicity, country of origin, etc.  There are Brazilians who run the gamut from dark black to light white. There are Jamaicans and other Caribbeans who also cover the rainbow.

CREATE A SEPARATE FIELD FOR COMPLEXION. CREATE A SEPARATE FIELD FOR Ethnicity or Country of Origin or something like that.

With the pallet in view, check a box or pick a number from the pallet to go into the Profile data.

I variate between coconut (sheet white) to Cinnamon (when I tan). My face always has some color to it.

If gals have proper photos, there would be no need for a complexion field. I guess it would make for easier searching though.

I lost my tan about two months ago and will be starting again soon. Once I get to "Cinnamon", I lay off on the tanning. Too much tan can age the face and even begin to look like a leather face!

I use both terms, AA and black. Although I try not to need to even say that. I never know what is more proper to say.

I don't know if I'd want my nationality listed. I am a 2nd generation American. I am a Kraut but I do not look like one.

Peach is half way between Coconut and Cinnamon, so you can just go with that!  But the introduction of "Complexion" is meant to be a guide, not a rule. "She showed up at my hotel room. I was expecting Honey but she appeared to be Caramel, even after I turned on more lights and had her pull up her sleeve. I called her a Bait and Switch artist and sent her away without a dime." should not happen.
   
   
Forget about photos. Many start their search with TER Reviews and only then do they go to the ads.  

And many searchers currently use the Ethnicity field as a substitute for Complexion. Even guys who are looking for AA or white sometimes have preferences: "Black, but not too black, like an espresso." "White, but not too white, like a coconut."  
  Ethnicity or country of origin, you would be American. But you're not NATIVE American, another crazy option in the TER Ethnicity list. I take "Native American" to mean "Indigenous Peoples of North America" - Eskimos, Indians (Cree, Seminole, Cherokee, ...) and I even EXCLUDE indigenous peoples of SOUTH America such as Mapuche, Quechua, Chibcho, etc. who seem to get lumped in with South American or Latina (if guys can't tell).  

CREATE TWO NEW FIELDS:  
  (1) Complexion with a color chart - determined by reviewers
  (2) Country of Origin or Cultural Identity - selected by Provider herself (or the reviewer if the Provider is not a member of TER, e.g., AMP girls).

I agree. I just prefer to be called black, although "ebony" has a nice ring to it.

It's annoying for me as I am Black but also Latina. Speak both English and Spanish at home. In hobby land I am Black so when guys say they are looking for Latina I know they don't mean me... It's just a descriptor.
