Outdated search box?

Is it necessary to have an area code search box AND a phone number search box? I could understand it before the cellphone became the primary means of communication. Area code gave info about general location. But now phone numbers are just 10 digit numbers . Would you ever search a 7 digit phone number? Does the area code tell any information?

When I search a provider based on phone number, should I break the number into its area code and it's 7 digit number or just enter 10 numbers as the phone# and leave the area code blank?  Most importantly does it ever make a difference? Does it matter how the 10 digits are initially entered by the first reviewer?

You can punch in all 10 numbers in the phone number section, or you can punch in the area code in the area code section and either the 7 numbers or all ten in the phone number section. The search results are the same. You can also just punch in the 7 digits in the phone section and you will still get the same results, but you will also get any other results where those seven digits are used with another area code if there are any. So of course the easiest way is to just punch in the 10 digits in the phone number section, but there is no reason to remove the area code box, because it allows a search by area code only. It is a good way to search for providers in "other cities"

Also you could have just figured that out for yourself if you tried it rather than asking here.:)
