I wonder if somewhere on the top of the screen (like "Sorry no mail") you could display a note that tells us if chat rooms are active.  Then we don't have to keep checking, and it serves as an invitation knowing somebody is there.

(I'm not talking about the scheduled chats, I'm talking about the impromptu ones.)

Maybe when we are reading the LA discussion board, the screen might say "LA chat room is active", or "3 people chatting".

Another thought is if we could check an option in the user profile that says I want to receive email notification when at least "n" people are chatting in "x" room.

Maybe these things are difficult if you purchased a third party chat software.

Just some thoughts.
