So if I see someone's post who I agree with (or even, at times, a post I only approve) I like to express that I like it without making a big distracting deal out of it.

There are many arguments that start up on the GB where anyone who chimes in becomes subject to personal attracts by those opposing the POV. Expressions tantamount to, "Of course you'd say that, you are..." and the following either could be a term of dismissal like "mangina" of "bitch" or could refer to some other post on another thread.
There are posts I agree with, and hitting the "like" allows the option of agreeing with an unpopular opinion without incurring the wrath of those who disagree.
