Suggestion and Policy

If edited posts didn't go through Mods, this wouldn't be a problem.

This was NEVER a problem historically on TER & now it is thanks to edits going through Mods & sitting in limbo.

Your beef should be with the Mod Edit policy NOT the posters who want to edit typos, or make additions/changes to their posts.

Some posters are constantly editing their posts, changing their statements and opinions within a thread on a whim.
That is not only rude to the other posters who reply to the original unedited post, but sometimes it appears that the person answering is off topic or misreading the post.
Editing should be used for legitimate purposes, not to change your mind every 5 minutes as the thread progresses.

To give you a (real)hypothetical:

Poster # 1 says something inaccurate or without foundation. Poster # 2 replies that poster # 1 is wrong and states a reason why. Poster # 1 then edits the original post, deleting some of the original content. Poster # 2 looks like they speaking off topic.

This is sometimes done intentionally, and has nothing to do with fixing typos.

disappeared after a short time, or a few reads.

You seem to be implying that the edit function is available long after other posts have gone up.

I didn't think that was possible.

Editing for TYPOs is not valid or needed in my opinion ... we are not publishing a book!

Editing to add or correct a URL is valid.
