Suggestion and Policy

I hardly ever use an alias.

then the vast majority of aliases do. Most of the posters who ridicule you are not using an alias anyhow. For your edification, do read the copy and paste from admin. Read it several times and slowly before responding.
By the way, do a search on this board if you know how to, and you will see that this topic has been brought up on numerous occasions.

Here are NINE very acceptable reasons for the use of an alias.

Use of topical humor when the alias enhances the humor

The creation of a character(literary license) to be used in an informative, fun, innocuously sarcastic, philanthropic, as well as topical way.

Anonymity for when regional or associational sensitivities may be of concern, particularly when there are members out there who will harass you on the boards when you disagree strongly with them.

Innocuous playing of "devils advocate" in a discussion or debate where one wishes to not be further/future aligned with one faction or the other.  If you look at the GD Board, there are providers who have flat out stated that they won't see someone based on some of their posts.  Why would any guy take the chance.

Avoidance of suffering political fallout for a comment that may have been wrongly construed in a possibly volatile discussion.  Some of these regular posters are hyper-sensitive, and also don't read the whole post before going ballistic.

Posting investigative reports, meet & greet announcements, helpful advice, or other similar types of useful information where the use of a user-name could prove problematic or open the poster up to incessant PM's and questions.

Concerns in revealing your review history.  This is a big one when you are posting about a particular provider that you are not going to name. In those situations, you open ALL of your reviewed providers to the public guessing who you are talking about.  It's not fair to the others.

Ability to contribute where you would otherwise feel embarrassed to speak candidly.  Some are just too shy, but will post under an alias.

To avoid a google search turning up your review history.  Some of these guys only post in alias for this reason.

I don't really need one, as I'm happy to say what I have to say under me handle.  So what would Roddy's solution to me be?  I guess he'd just have me banned.  If he could get all the bad boys banned he'd be happy as a clam, right?

Not everyone has used an alias to bitch slap him. My other point was that he is the cause of most of his problems with other posters, aliases and handles alike. He just doesn't understand it.

Make people stand by what they say and do, if alias were intended to reduce drama by protecting the source, than its a failed experiment.

Everything needs to go alias posts, reviews, etc. Gone more often they are used to cause trouble than anything else.

When the intended use of something isn't used that way rules need to change.

That's an excellent idea Rod...you big hunk of man.  Just don't tell TER that I'm creating an envelope a week...that would be 52 different handles a year (I didn't want you to hurt yourself trying to figure out how many that would be).

Tell CPA and Panthera that I still love those boys.  Why can't you be more like them?

Oh...and that Inicky46...he's a real hoot.  You honestly think that we are being "mean" to each other.  Heck, it's the best foreplay I've ever had.

You do realize many of the board aliases are women right?
Since the ladies can do no wrong in your eyes, should they still be allowed to use aliases, but not the men?

What about what CPA calls "brown envelopes" (Yeah, he's colorblind. They are actually yellow, but that's beside the point), handles with no reviews attached. How are those any different than an alias?

As Steph pointed out, aliases have been around a lot longer than you have (and probably will be around long after you're gone), and as panther pointed out there are many legitimate uses for aliases, which is why TER created them many years ago.

I'm reading people saying there have been aliases allowed for a LONG time. Seems like you are editorializing to me. That sounds like what YOU think about aliases not what the naysayers said or think.

But I could have skipped over something.

Steph ;-)

Seems to me it's split down the middle between supporters of aliases and detractors.  So there you go again, rewriting reality Rod.
You seem to live in your own little world.

Do you have proof of this claim that ladies outnumber the men in regards to using aliases?

I'm NOT referring to TER handles, just aliases.
