I recently purchased a bitcoin wallet on my Android phone and wanted to try it for my very first bitcoin purchase after loading it from a third party with $80 US. A quarterly TER VIP membership for $60 US seemed like a perfect test. Apparently a standard URL to a bitboin purchase has this format:
bitcoin:[unique code]?amount=[current conversion amount]
I clicked the link in a standard Android browser and it would not automatically open my wallet. So I copied and pasted the unique code directly into my wallet along with the payment amount and sent it that way.
Mistake.
When my additional days failed to appear, I contacted TER support for help. I was told that the invoice must be executed directly within the TER purchase browser window. Sure enough, Firefox apparently supports this because I ran a test and it opened the wallet though I canceled since it was only a test.
Support said I needed to request a refund so I sent the standard URL to them pointing to my wallet and the same amount I sent. Those funds have yet to reappear days later. Further inquiry has led me back full circle to support telling me, "You needed to pay the BitPay invoice and not send money directly to the address. Please request a refund and pay BitPay invoice instead."
I have no idea how to make that happen since, by its nature, bitcoin obscures money trails.
If anyone has suggestions for retrieving these funds from the vapor so I can spend them the right way, please post.
On a positive note, I also tested a one time use anonymous VISA gift card from my local bank and it worked here.
