Does the Politics and Religion board serve any useful purpose on a hobby website?

I am still amazed at the level of sexism, racism, and bigotry on that board.

To a neutral website browser, the P&R board holds all of us in a bad light.

I still think TER needs to take that board down and use the bandwith, space for a more useful purpose.

It's better to have the Politics and Religion all in one place than on the General Discussion Board. If you you don't like the content, do what I do, quit going there.

Well, you have 13 posts on that board since late May.
Why don't you post this thread there, and see what type of reaction you will get?
I happen to find the P&R board both entertaining, and informative.
If you don't like it, perhaps you should simply not read it.
Many do enjoy the board as evidenced by the traffic.

I don't like it, so I don't go there... however, I appreciate that it keeps those same posts off the GD board so I don't accidentally stumble into reading them.

I was told, via PM, by a frequent contributor who has since quit that board in disgust, that P&R was set up eplicitly in 2004 becaue of all the non-hobbying posts on General Discussion dealing with the 2004 election, social problems, political disputes, and the like.

I like to think that P&R is doing it's bit to hold down the crime rate nationwide.  Given the preternatural levels of hostility many posters there display [and I'm no innocent on that score], i think in the absence of P&R, there would be considerably more

1. spousal abuse
2. child battering
3. pet kicking
4. unprovoked road-rage incidents
5. workplace "postal" incidents
6. and God only knows what else.

I'm starting to wonder, what is the level of BDSM particiapation by P&R reguklars?  Well, maybe that's a post down the line.

Besides, and I'm partial, i think some of the best writer at TER have frequented P&R  [zinaval in the past, zisk and Tuscayan and JackO and BizarroSuperdude currently, and other whose names do not come to mind immediately].  You find many clever and interesting aliases there [JackO alone is a cottage industry unto hinslef, and I do my bit as well on that score]. I find all kinds of humor and amusement there, though for all the wrong reasons.  And, on occassion, you will find some interesting and insightful comments.

So, with P&R, it's the best of times, it's the worst of times...

Your contributions to P&R will always be welcome BTW.

where the inmates are all locked up together.  Keeps them off the GD board.

Are you still mad that on the P&R board they keep telling you your name is gay?  There is nothing wrong with having a gay name.

are there insane asylums where the inmates are NOT locked up together?

maybe it's more like a prison from which the inmates/convicts have little desire to escape?

...in the anonymous environment of the internet.  The PR board exists to help keep the GD board civil.
