Now and then I get a fan letter (or poison pen letter) from a provider, and I'd like to be able to check out her profile on TER afterwards; but often the name they use for the PM is not the same as what their profile is under, so finding it is hard to do.

Could there be a way that a link to their profile would automatically appear just like when they make a post on the board?

It would make things easier.  Of course if they want to avoid having the link for some reason, there should be a way around that too.

Just an idea.

Maybe the powers that be will consider it!

Getting a PM from a provider or hobbyist that you don't recognize off hand from the boards, often times will cause you to search for their reviews. Having a link (similar to when they post on boards) would make it much easier.
And for those who want to avoid having the link, there already is a way around it. They can use their alias to PM you.
