Allowing us to add alias to ignore list

Search this discussion on "ignore alias" to get an idea of just how often this request has come up.

As I noted about a year and a half ago, I have a feeling it would be a difficult (read "expensive") system change to make, or it would have been done. I believe what prevents this from being done is that there's a tight relationship in the system (i.e. in the database design) between aliases and handles, such that ignoring an alias would also ignore the handle--and out the alias.

Augmenting my reply to your newbie board post on this topic:
.
The problem isn't ignoring aliases. The problem is to block pics when in special situations.
.
TER: Add an account setting or a user setting or a temporary toggle (at login) such as: "Do lot load pics automatically. Wait until I click on the icon."  That's an old setting in most browsers from the days of slower connections or measured ($ per Mb) internet access.  When traveling, etc., using slow or limited airport wifi, you didn't want to waste time loading pics when all you needed was to check emails.

That only addresses one issue, which Smartie posted about.

It does nothing to address the problem of not being able to ignore aliases.

I took that issue ("When I am on the train or bus or at work, I want to take a quick look at the discussion but I don’t want people around me to see the pics if I scroll it down.") to be the main motivation for her to want to ignore an alias (especially the one that posts a lot of pics -- who?).
.
The "do not load pics automatically" feature would solve the "unwanted pics" problem (limited bandwidth; limited data left on monthly phone plan; nosy neighbors on the bathroom line) from ALL posters, real or aliased. I'm thinking that it's actually a good idea.

That was given as an example. She also mentioned "why force OTHER people on TER to read my ramblings if they don’t want to. Thats like rape to their eyes you know" (she posted with her alias).  And that's the general reason for being able to put an alias on Ignore, which your suggestion doesn't address. Your suggestion is thus a solution to a different problem, although it addresses the issue of photos being displayed when you don't want them displayed which in itself will be useful in some situations. My own solution to that problem is not to look at TER discussions when someone else could see the screen.

"why force OTHER people on TER to read my ramblings if they don’t want to."
has always been easily dealt with with a hardware solution: just scroll past those posts you don't want to read. Easy peasy lemon squeazy. Roly poly, lemon scroll-y. A software solution has been discussed for years and it just isn't easy to implement given the data structures.

Yes, thank you.
My own solution to that problem is not to look at TER discussions when someone else could see the screen.
An excellent suggestion for dealing with nosy neighbors but it doesn't address those safe, private situations where there is limited bandwidth, limited remaining data, or limited time.
.
On a separate note, how come my great suggestion gets zero LIKES but Smartie's "The load/no-load setting sounds great!!! I hope TER implements it, it would help guys using burner phones on limited data plans. Great idea me luv." gets multiple LIKES?

... just because your post didn't get any likes.  😱

That's happened to me many times, both when I post with my handle and with my alias. I'll make a point in a thread, no likes.  Later someone else will post almost exactly the same thought in the same thread, and it gets Likes.  I find that happens most often when the other poster is a provider.

Que sera sera.

Yes, it's a heavy cross to bear. Good company to share the burden makes it more tolerable.

My real phone is smart. My hobby phone is still dumb. Will smart phone hobbyists please comment?
.
Make "Do not load pics automatically" the DEFAULT when using the mobile site (is it m-for-mobile m.thereroticreview.com?).  Do most mobile users WANT the pics autoloaded? Do most mobile users want pics suppressed unless clicked?
.
I'm interested in your opinions even if TER isn't and will continue to ignore all of my great suggestions.

I never use TER from my smart phone, only from a desktop PC or an iPad. Only when connected to wifi.  Only when others can't see my screen.  So I don't mind photos auto-loading.

I may be an exception to the typical TER user, so for people who use TER on slow connections and/or when others can see the screen, this might be useful.  For me... meh.
