I wouldn't say it doesn't mean shit... you can teach a guy to throw a curve, you can't teach a guy to throw 100+
I remember a guy like that years ago who struggled for quite a while with his arrow-straight fastball before he finally learned some control and some other pitches - maybe you've heard of him? Nolan Ryan? Big Texan, threw a bunch of no-hitters?
But never won the Cy Young....WOW.
He DID finish in the Top Ten CY Young voting 8 times. He was also 3rd in career losses, 1st in both walks and wild pitches.
