UCLA basketball in total disarray as players intentionally injured teammates,

engaged in fights, took drugs before practice, and defied the coach, according to a new Sports Illustrated story.

Coach Ben Howland didn't deny any parts of the story in what I read but gave the lamest of excuses - "I'm not perfect. I make mistakes..." blah blah blah.  Apparently Reeves Nelson, the forward who missed the flight to Hawaii for the tournament in November, was a major part of the problem.

Can you imagine anyone Duke getting away with stuff like this? Andre Dawkins failed to hustle after one ball and now he is buried on the bench for the rest of the season.

Time to give up on UCLA, St Croix, and swear allegiance to Duke forever.

excluding lacrosse I suspect, I may consider it (lol). Duke is great at Basketball, but that's it.

I was listening to the local ESPN station today, and Howland and Guerrero (AD) are getting trashed by the alumni, and other UCLA supporters. Reeves was definitely a problem that Howland should have addressed early on. Some of what Reeves did was beyond belief.

Howland has done a poor job in recruiting, and that includes the 3 Final Four appearances. They had outstanding talent, but were running into the "one and done" routine. Westbrook has one great game against Derrick Rose of Memphis, then he's gone. You have to have a balance of the "one and done" and 4 year starters that probably won't play in the NBA. Now that I say that, I have no answer for how Kentucky does it.

I do give a lot of credit to Coach K in how he manages his program, both recruiting and discipline. He is the best. Then I look at Gonzaga, and how does this school excel every year with average talent. They are the Boise State of basketball. It says a lot about recruiting the right kind of talent, and great coaching.

UCLA supposedly has a great recruiting class coming in next year. We will see. He will be on a very short leash, just like Neuheisel in football.

this afternoon on that situation. I never was a big fan of UCLA, but I hate it for college basketball that the program has fallen so far.

how the program went from three straight final fours to this under the same coach.

Many players referenced the hands off approach of Ben Howland as the cause that let things spiral out of control almost similar to what happened with the Red Sox.
