Well sports fans, the first of Lane Kiffin's "payback games" is coming up Saturday in, where else, Gainesville. I'm wondering if Urban will call off the dogs in the 4th quarter, or let them keep hunting. Should be interesting. Although I'm a 'Bama fan, go Gators!!!
p71

The UT defense is pretty good, or so it seems.  The offense is terrible.  The Gator Nation wants blood from Lame Kiffin.  Tebow is pissed off at the things Lame said about Meyer and just ask FSU what happens when you piss him off.

I expect a close game in the first half with the Gator team depth and talent wearing out the vols in the second half.

I'll be there in my normal Touchdown Terrace seat enjoying the day.  I fully expect to see Bama in the SECCG in Dec.

Hi, Penny,
I lived in B'ham 71-83 and have been in Tampa since-I too am a 'Bama fan and also pull for the Gators when they aren't playing 'Bama-The line on the game is 28 and I think Tebow-who apparently was really ticked at Kiffin as was Urban-will do their best to run up the score on the Vols-I never forgave the Vol fans for treating Bill Battle-a former Tide player and Tennessee coach poorly-sending a moving van to his house-and hope Lane and his boys go down like the Titanic and are sent back to ObKnoxville with a major buttwhooping-Again, I love all the SEC fans-it's just I love the Volunteer faithful a WHOLE lot less than the others-smile-Later, 1rob....OUT

Florida will play at the "full steam ahead" level until the very end.  That seems to be Meyer's MO when his emotions are involved.

He won't call off the Gators and they will probably take the Vols by 20.  Kiffen will then use it in recruiting.  We need YOU to be the one to help take down the almighty Gators.  TN grad

Gators by at least 35.  Meyer will show no mercy.

I like the Gators by at least 17 points but would prefer if there was a way they could both lose! LOL!
Crompton's a terrible QB and I was stunned on the pre-game show last week before the UCLA game when they were singing his praises because he had a great day against Western Ky who was playing their first game at the Division 1 level. He'll be replaced by halftime against Florida Saturday.

considering he didn't say much when he was the Offensive Coordinator for USC. But then again, he worked for Pete Carroll, and assistants for big name coaches tend to keep their mouth shut. Nevertheless, Tennessee lacks a lot of talent, and it starts at QB. Crompton is pretty bad. Give Kiffin a few years to recruit. I expect him to employ a more traditional NFL style offense, similar to USC, but that requires a QB that can take a snap under center, drop 3 or 4 steps, read a defense, and complete a pass, preferably to your own player. Finding that type of QB is next to impossible as high schools are copying certain colleges and going with a spread offense, which is easier for QB. Just keep Kiffin out of Southern California, as there is a great crop of QB's. Kiffin is a great recruiter. He will eventually get the talent. Give him a few years.

4 and half million dollars for a football coach. That is absurd. The whole conference should be deleted from college sports for the mockery they make of it. Has the SEC forgotten that College is about education.

I received my Alumni magazine from Oregon State and I was proud to read that 5 of the seven players that were drafted to the NFL last year graduated with a degree. The remaining two; Victor Hughes DE with Dallas and Al Afalava of Chicago are a few degrees shy of a Bachelor of Science degree. Mr. Afalava a rookie is even starting with Chicago as their safety.

My team may not make the BCS Championship or even ESPN sportscenter unless of course one of the players sucker punches someone, but they are winners in my book. This evening I made a alumni contribution and wrote a letter expressing my graditude to Coach Riley and his staff in emphasizing scholastic success.

The SEC is a sad tradegy where smack talk is more important than educating our youth.

The SEC is one reason why I would like the ROSE Bowl to return to a Big 11 vs Pac 10 matchup.

GO BEAVERS!!!

Yes, the money flowing through college sports is absurd but then so is the money being spent on NFL, MLB & NBA players and coaches.

But before you blow your horn about academics, take a look at these numbers:

2008 NCAA Graduation Success Rate for BCS Football Programs

T25. Florida 68%
T34. Oregon State 64%

And yes, I would prefer the Rose bowl return to its roots as well.  Two over rated schools from two over rated conferences playing one another.  Perfect!

The Pac-10 is overrated?  Then that doesn't say much for the SEC.  The Pac-10 is 10-8 against the SEC since 2000 and has a 9-2 record in BCS bowls. Last year, it was the only conference to go undefeated in bowls, 5-0, and boasts a winning record against every major conference.  Under Pete Carroll USC as defeated Auburn and Arkansas twice by the cumulative score of 167-48. Two of those games were on the road when the Trojans shut out Auburn and beat Arkansas 50-14 in the year that they  were SEC West Champs.  And check out Florida's on-conference schedule this year and tell us with a straight face that the SEC isn't overrated.

Also, no $ that funds the gators athletic dept. comes from state or federal source. The FAA is self funded self entity, & donated an additional $6m this year upon the usual $2M they donate to the university academics every year due to school budget cuts. Football & mens b-ballpays for the rest of the atheletic depts, coaches salaries including all the ladies sports, builds their stadiums, lockeroom, etc, etc.....

over $60 million in revenue through ticket sales and licensing agreements. No sacrifice is being made by academics for the sake of football. For athletes that enrolled in the 2001-2002 academic year, Alabama's graduation rate was 80%. So if anyone thinks that the SEC is all about football, football, football and nothing else, they're as lost as last year's Easter egg.

is about money. Look at the supposed "rankings" Alabama is ranked third in the nation while Utah a team they lost to last year is ranked 19th.

The rankings of college football teams seems to depend on two criteria:

(1) How much money the coach makes?
(2) What kind of television ratings will the team generate.

The SEC on average pay their football coaches over $3,000,000 dollars. For that money they can generate a whole of publicity for their programs.

Notre Dame was ranked in the top 20 without proving themselves on the field. However, ND has a large loyal national following. Heck I admit, as a Catholic boy who dreamed of playing for touchdown Jesus I watch them if I can. I mean who hasn't shed a tear for "Rudy".

In college football there are three flagship teams and they are:

(1) Notre Dame
(2) Alabama
(3) Oklahoma

The case can be made for USC and Nebraska but those are teams that have the legacy and tradition to promote a national following.

Thus votes and rankings will be biased towards these three teams and accompanied conferences. In the later two it's the SEC and BIG 12, respectively.

on one thing. Alabama is about academics first, athletics second. It always has been, always will be. It's just that, like all other football schools, academics is overshadowed by football.

...the dude behind the fence on the "grassy knoll"!
Go Knolls!!!

LMAO! ;-)

a believable rationale. Tell me what do you think are are the three flagship college teams in the NCAA. By flagship I mean these teams have a national following built up over decades of tradition.  I think you would agree they are:

Notre Dame
Alabama
Oklahoma

Pre-season is over for the gators. First game is a rivary game. Lame Kiffen has put together a great coaching staff & had  a top 10 recruiting class this year. They have an excelent defence (but so do the gators) no debth, & for shit @ QB, & sunny boy Lame has a big mouth. Close first half..gators up 21 -7, final score 49-10. defence, special teams & of course offence scores in 2nd half...

If he can last 3 years in the conference, he can bring Tenn back...but every year because of that mouth & pissing SEC coaches off, Fla, So.Car Georgia, Alabama will have that game circled, if he loses those 4 games his first 3 years, say bye bye Lamie....

Yep.  He has POed Meyer, Spurrier and Saban.  These are three coaches that he will have to face every year and I'm betting that they all have long memories.

Spurrier's known for his long memory. He kicked the shit out of Georgia a few times just because he hated Ray Goff so much!

I'm sure Meyer has been blasting "Rocky Top" in the gator locker room all week of practice, so the boys certainly don't want to hear Lame sing it w/the Tenn band after the game!

When Pat Summitt was dressed as a cheerleader some time ago and singing "Rocky Top," dogs all over my neighborhood were howling!!

Nice to see that they put such a premium on correct spelling in Gainesville.

Ah... it is great to be back in Las Vegas for a wild weekend. The first move I made today was to put down big $$$ on Florida to cover... this is a LOCK, and a license to print money. The Gators will roll over big-mouth Kiffin's Vols.
