That puts the UConn girls at #3 on the Division 1 rankings of the longest winning streaks in NCAA history.
1) University of Miami Men's Tennis Team won 137 straight matches back in the 50s.
2) Penn State's Women's Volleyball team won 109 straight matches, a streak that only ended a couple months ago. (In spite of the streak ending during this season, the Lady Lions still went on to win their unprecedented 4th straight national championship earlier this week.)
but two things have helped them: Tennessee has been beaten to recruits with some regularity of late (people finally getting tired of Summitt scowling?), and Maya Moore (one of those recruits).
While I love the ladies, I think because of the lack of parity in womens' hoops, it just isn't quite the same as the UCLA record, but it's still impressive.
Uconn has not topped UCLA as their men's basketball team has never won more than 88 games in a row. And their women's team is still well short of the college record of 131 consecutive wins by Wayland Baptist University between 1953 and 1958. Women's basketball has only been an NCAA sport since 1982 so it doesn't recognize any records before that.
