While Smoltz is defintely a feel better story than RJ, who is not liked by quite a few fellow players, Johnson still had somethingin the tank.  As JHB said, Smoltzie mechanics are off, and unless he gets them corrected, he won't be effective no matter what the role.

I wish him well, but he is going to have to prove he can still get people out before anyone will give him a chance now, and he may not be offered enough for him to want to play.

Now that the Red Sox has cut ties with future hall of famer Smoltz...hopefully he can get back on track with another club as did Randy Johnson after leaving NY.

What clubs could use Smoltz in the rotation?

ESPN reported that he was going back down to the minors and work on becoming a relief pitcher. As I said in another thread, I wish he would retire. He has lost some zip on his fastball and some bite on his slider and it's almost painful watching him pitch. He has nothing left to prove, he's a sure Hall-of-Famer, so maybe he'll call it quits.

years (1996 and 1998), and his lifetime stats are not nearly as good as a number of really good pitchers who never made the HOF.  I suppose time will tell.

and 3,000 strikeouts. You have to take the entire body of work, including his post-season stats. I would love to see him, Maddux and Glavine go in together.
