Roberts, a member of the 1950 Philly Whiz Kids that were swept by the Yankees in the World Series, died yesterday at age 83. In 1952, Roberts won 28 gams, lost 7, pitched 330 innings and 30 complete games. Most TEAMS don't have that many complete games in one season. Thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

After '50, the Phillies pretty much sucked for years and Roberts was a star with little support-They went from being the Whiz Kids to just whiz-Richie Ashburn was another terric player on that team but there was a dearth of talent after those two -A truly great hurler-after his retirement from the majors, he went on to coach here at the University of South Florida-Thanks for the info, John-Condolences to the family-1rob

winner-Hey, I believe the Magic are strong enough to win it all this year-If you can teach Howard to shoot free throws-smile-Hope all is well and I continue to enjoy your terrific posts...1rob...Tampatown rules...Mousetown drools..OUT    8-)

I think he retired by the time I start paying attention to baseball when I was about 8 years old or so. I remember that he threw really hard and at one time he owned the record for giving up the most career homeruns. Don't know if it still stands or not.
