A remarkable athelete and a real gentleman who will be missed.  One of the great football hero's.

Get this.  He played college football under Coach Bear Bryant --- at Kentucky.  

I know I am getting old when a player that I watched play when I was kid dies at the age of 83.

I always hated the Raiders but I loved and respected George Blanda and the way he played the game.

Hall-of-Famer George Blanda passed away today, according to ESPN.com. Blanda was 83. In his 26 years with various teams, most notably the Houston Oilers and Oakland Raiders of the old AFL, he played in 340 games. Thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

I think Mark Moseley of the Redskins was the last, at least that I can remember.

toughest guy he ever played with-Blanda also played linebacker early in his careet-He had a stretch where he came in and won or tied 4 games in a row with last minute heroics like long or clutch field goals or TD passes-and he was over 40 at the time as I recall-Great player and leader-He was a special one-

a sophomore-George Blanda said after meeting the Bear that this must be what God looks like-Blanda originally started with the Bears in 1949 and didn't like George Halas much-he said Halas was too cheap to even buy him a kicking shoe-Blanda was certainly a man's man-

Many, many accomplishments over an illustrious 26 year career.

I know what you mean about the age thing. I remember some of Blanda's heroics late in his career. As a Big Blue fan, I always rooted for Blanda. I used to watch him with my Dad, whom I lost last year at the age of 88.

Csonka, Payton, Rocky Blier, Floyd Little, Bob Lilley, Upshaw, Jim Marshall, Alan Page, et al, I am so glad I grew up watching these guys as childhood heroes. Like Jersey said, these were real men.

How George Blanda played 26 years in the dog eat dog, brutal football of the 50s',60s,70s I'm amazed.
