Dr. Buss died today at age 80, reportedly from cancer. Under his ownership, the Lakers won 10 NBA titles and became "Showtime." Among other things, he was the first owner to have dancers for fan entertainment, the "Laker Girls." Best wishes and prayers go out to the Buss family and the Laker organization.

I was originally told that he inherited apartments from his dad.  Wrong.  Based on this article, he lucked into black gold and leveraged his way to success.  God bless...

Please read the LA Times article about his rise to success..........

Buss said

"I've worked hard and been lucky," Buss said. "With the combination of the two, I've accomplished everything I ever set out to do."

He and investors bought a second building and stumbled onto some good fortune. The partners — along with several relatives — won $12,000 at the racetrack, then bought yet another building, soon discovering oil on the property and receiving lucrative royalty rights.

...., but DJB, did know how to turn an organization around!  A true innovator!

Hugs and Kisses,
Kelly

I lost interest after Magic and Bird retired.

Otherwise I agree.

Her "allowance" must be off the hook to sleep with Grandpa. If that's not providing I don't know what is. She is not there because of his stellar good looks or banging body. She is there because of his bulging....WALLET!

If you knew nothing about Baseball, you heard of Geroge Steinbrenner. If you knew nothing of football, you heard of Al Davis. With the passing of Jerry Buss, the last of the modern day "larger than the sport itself" owners, has died.

Buss' credentials as an owner are without equal. He owned the team for 34 years and the Lakers made 16 finals (I think winning 10 or 11 titles). That's almost 1/2 the time they reached the finals. An unbelievable streak of success.

His goal was to have people when they think of LA, to think of the Lakers. Mission accomplished.
