Chuck Tanner, manager of the Pittsburgh Pirates during the "We are family" days with players such as Willie Stargell, passed away today. He was a true gentleman and will be missed.
When Pittsburgh was down 3-1 to the Orioles in the 1979 Series, Tanner learned that his Mom had died. He chose to remain with the team, saying that his Mom would want him to do his job. The Pirates won the next 3 games.
