Please tell me the Red Sox are really doing an imitation of Muhammad Ali's "rope a dope" to just barely make the playoffs and then they'll win 11 straight games to win the WS.
That's the plan right?
That's what their doing right?
Right?

And the Lions will go undefeated this year and win the Superbowl, A horse now pulling a carrage in Central Park will win the Triple Crown next year. John Daley will win the Grand Slam next year. The Phx Suns will go undefeated in 2012.

Now hows that. Make you feel better.

I get to watch all the Red Sox games.  I've watched every game for the past two weeks.  The Sox are in terrible trouble.  Even though they won last night, it was emblematic of what's wrong with them.
Exhibit A: Jed Lowrie bats cleanup.
Exhibit B: Bedard starts but gives up a run in the first and doesn't go deep in the game.
Exhibit C: Bard throws 97 mph but is very hitable and lets the Orioles back in the game.
Exhibit D: Papelbon, who has been lights-out 'til now, gets knocked around and the Orioles almost come back.  He's thrown a lot of pitches in the past week and will get no rest, especially if there's a one-game playoff as a result of tonight's games.
So, yes, the Sox finally won.  But they are a hurtin' team.  The playoffs are all about pitching and the Sox rotation is in tatters, their bullpen has become inconsistent and they have not been getting key hits.  The night before, for example, they loaded the bases in consecutive innings and did not score.  They have played the lowly Orioles in six of the last nine games and lost four times.  They are primed to be knocked out in the first round if they make it that far.
