Somebody enlighten me because I just don't understand the fuss over this kid. I saw video of him on draft day and I didn't see ANYTHING special about his game!

I only saw a few highlight clips of him, but I'm like you. I don't see why anyone would want to use a high draft choice on him. The Timberwolves obviously knew his contract situation before they drafted him (or at least I hope they did), so one wonders why.

First, the kid is only 18; a baby in the basketball world. He might not have anything unique in his game today, but that doesn’t mean that in a few years (when he will still be 20-21 years old) that he wont develop. Just look at Jermaine O'Neal. If you just went by his first few years out of high school, when he was languishing on Portland's bench, you would have said he was a bust. He improved with age, and had several All Star seasons with the Pacers.

The Timberwolves are banking that Rubio will one day develop into a star. Who knows if they will be right. But if their personnel people (who forgot more about evaluating talent than most of know) believe that he can be something special, than he was worth the high draft selection.

Certain cities in the NBA are desperate to put a White star on the court - regardless of how well he actually can play. Phoenix, Minnesota, Seattle, Boston, all go out of their way to draft and trade for White players, thinking that will put butts into seats.

What's funny is that when Boston ignored race and went out and got great players (Garnett, Allen), they won the title and every seat was full.

These teams need to remember - winning cures all ills when it comes to attendance. Minnesota seems to be saying "We know we're not going to win, so we might as well have some White players that our fans can identify with."

Won't work - no one wants to see a loser, regardless of race.

draft Johnny Flynn out of Syracuse? Last time I checked, he's black, as is Al Jefferson, their best player. Oh I know...let's have every major college team, every pro baseball, basketball, football team, every pro golfer all be 100% black!  That'll take care of blaming everything on race. Then what will you bitch about?!?!?!?!

All you ever whine about is race.  Good lord man, get over it already.

I bet that certain cities in the NBA want to win games.  Do ya think that maybe some of them would pick players that could help achieve that goal?
